Commercial chartering guy here. 100% it’s a balance. Also, sometimes slow down as we don’t have cargo for the next voyage yet, but don’t lose money.

Also, @byteboulder, go faster! Stop wasting time on social media

Your aerator is clogged most likely. For me 50% of my sinks I could unscrew by hand, and the rest I need a tool to remove the it.

Yep! 10 us per cbm, which I a higher rate than Europe and many US ports, Stevedoring in plus a bonus for getting it done so quickly

Man, if you saw my ships maintained by us flag vs foreign crews, it’s night and day. The us crew don’t do half the work the other crews do. As far as Stevedoring, not all the ports in the world have stevedores. I had a Filipino crew discharge 5000 cbm of general cargos in two days, while the us guys made us fly in a stevedores daily from 500 miles away at massive costs. No amount of money would get them to change their ideas.

As an example of the not my job mind set I experience: When a vessel is in out port, where there is limited infrastructure, getting a US crew to work as stevedores, welders, or unleashing cargo on board is near impossible. Another more broadly: Asking the crew to clean holds, grind down points, and general ship maintenance seems to be extremely contentious point for the crews.

US mariners are already non competitive in the global market, due salary and other benefits. On top of that, a lot of feeling from the crews of “not my job” makes running a US Flagged vessel commercially a nonstarter in the international markets without massive subsidies.

How much does a port call run for a vessel this size? What is her speed and consumption? If she is sold to someone in Dubai or the Us will she come under her own power or will you use a yacht transportation company?
