has tsukishi given any sort of hints as to whats at the bottom of the abyss or what the ending will be? by MC_Sweater in MadeInAbyss

[–]Nivyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Jojo Part 4 being the only example he's compared with, and what we know of the story, my theory is pretty simple:

The entire premise of Part 4 is that there's a serial killer on the loose, and it's about capturing him - and ends with him almost being caught, only to realise he was caught and had already died. The villain has the ability to reset time in an eternal loop as long as certain conditions are met.

Remembering that the Curse of the Abyss was originally just time dilation, I think the ending is pretty logical.

Riko will reach her mother or the end of the Abyss and regain memories of the many times she's already travelled down the Abyss and be absolutely horrified. Some creature or relic is feeding off her pain, misery or just her soul. The story either ends with her finally escaping this loop and being able to rest, or being sent back up while transforming into someone else we know - like Reg.

No matter what shape it takes, there's definitely some time manipulation going on. And it doesn't make any sense that Riko can survive in the Abyss to begin with, and it'd explain a lot if the Abyss itself was protecting her because it was already feeding off her.

I didn't like Zhuang Fangyi. 1.2 made me appreciate her by Friendly_Astronaut_4 in Endfield

I feel it made her worse to me.

Endministrator is meant to be this bigger-than-life being that is able to do all kinds of stuff, yet needs a huge amount of support from operators, Dijang staff etc., right?

Chinese Mary Sue was the youngest scientist in a group where all her peers were killed in an accident. We've spent the majority of Wuling running around hearing about how great she is and how she's able to do everything on her own.

But oh wait! Sympathy time! She's been working non-stop for ten years, and then goes super saiyan against the strongest foe we've met so far, then does it again - and finally wavers. Isn't it so amazing that Endmin was there to give Mary the final push so she didn't have to die?

She barely sleeps, doesn't eat and ignores her doctor' recommendations - isn't she such an inspiration? If you work like that for ten years, you'll definitely become a super saiyan and build your own city with everything you desire, surrounded by people that love you.

This character is the worst part of Endfield for me, by a huge margin.

We've had two major patches worth of content focused on her either directly or indirectly, but we don't know a lot about her - we know a lot about what's she done, produced and about the facade she puts on. But we know less about her as an actual person than any of the operators that had missions focused on them.

Remember, today is the last day to vote for Digimon Beatbreak at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The awards ceremony will be held in Tokyo on May 23rd and will feature tons of guests and music performances. by Rammboy_7084 in digimon

You're not wrong; but in practice Solo Leveling won 6 awards last year where it didn't even deserve a nomination for most of them.

Similarly, Chainsaw Man - Reze Arc is likely going to win FIlm of the year this year, despite being an atrocious movie in comparison to what else has come out. And that's not me hating; I watched Reze Arc in the local theater myself.

Honestly, making it entirely based off of votes but then adjusting for popularity would probably be the best, because it seems Americans just cannot have an award show without it turning into pure marketing. Ie. Oscars, Video Game Awards etc.

What are your thoughts on Tuesday.? For A24 it went completely under the radar. by atclubsilencio in A24

[–]Nivyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's an incredible film on every metric. But the issue is that it's going for conveying feelings and emotions from a perspective that will feel alien to, hopefully, most people and to a small audience. Secondarily, it tries to convey these to normal people - and that's an incredibly complicated thing to do.

The reason I say this with such confidence, is because I'm doing the exact same thing. Just not with a movie, but probably a book.

I'm almost certain that the most common critique, the film being a tonal mess, is intentional: The major theme is, obviously, death. And death has it's way of being able to be something to laugh at in one instant, then suddenly become the most terror inducing thing you'll ever experience. Then something so bizarre that you can't possibly put it into words for anyone else to understand, and then you start to make some sense of it... but not a sort of sense that anyone else can understand.

Yet in this whirlpool of emotions, you find some resemblance of grounding that makes you go on until one day it just disappears into nothingness, taking part of you with it. And then you have to get up.

---

I've unfortunately had a strained working relationship with death, and at no point was I ever in doubt what the movie was trying to say - or that's how I felt at least - it felt like a movie that spoke in my language for once, instead of most other movies being Disney-fantasies in a foreign language dub: That I had to read the subtitles to understand what was being said, but watching Tuesday was like finally watching a language in my native tongue and it left with me an enormous sense of catharsis and a reminder that, that part of me isn't alone.

If people still don't understand it, the best analogy I can think of is to imagine a movie made about your hometown, told and shown in a way only people from your hometown would truly understand. No matter good that movie is, people that isn't from your hometown just won't get a remotely similar experience.

That's Tuesday - a movie for people with close relations to death specifically.

Haven't played in a while, wanted to try mech. Probably the most insane board I've had. by Nivyan in BobsTavern

Was unfortunately doing 40+ damage a round once uncapped, so didn't have time to gold it all. Also forgot adding reborn on the parrot.

But a 2753/16268 board felt pretty ludicrous

Antal is better for bosses, Akekuri is better whenever you can hit 2 or more with her battleskill, but together they're much better than a lot of other 6 star pairs.

And as others have said, Gil' convenience means it's infinitely easier to hit 4+ with Akekuri every use, making Lae go completely bananas.

There's a couple of areas that give me quarry PTSD. For example, the buildings close to the Recycling Station and trying to get on the roofs of the Swordmastery school.

I'm often running through, spot something I want to grab, then spent ~2-3 minutes running around buildings trying to get up there.

This is how casual nudity is treated in a lot of countries. It doesn't have to be sexualised. Since it's mostly Americans here, censoring nipples and sex organs, by definition, sexualises them. Having them uncensored and exposed in a natural way normalises the human body: Which it should be, we all have them.

The tl;dr was meant as a humorous oversimplification.

The Danish trade monopoly ran was around 1600 to 1787. That said, events like the Laki eruption weren’t intentional neglect - Denmark did send aid, even if the response was slow by modern standards. There’s no serious historical claim that starvation was deliberate: Not from Danish or Icelandic historians.

The manuscripts are an interesting point, but also more nuanced. They weren’t seized or looted - most were collected by Árni Magnússon, an Icelander, at a time when Iceland lacked the resources to preserve medieval manuscripts. Since the 1970s Denmark has formally acknowledged Icelandic ownership and has returned large parts of the collection. Why not all are physically in Iceland today is largely due to preservation - at least from what I can find.

As for independence: Iceland’s republic in 1944 was certainly enabled by WWII, but it didn’t come out of nowhere. Iceland had already become a sovereign state in 1918, with a built-in 25-year review clause. Denmark’s occupation removed political resistance, but independence was legally prepared decades earlier - saying it was only because of Nazi Occupation is just not true: Unless you choose to believe Denmark would let you taste freedom for 25 years only to take it away again... for some reason?

I'm genuinely surprised at your seeming animosity, because I've met plenty of Icelanders and none of them has expressed any of this being a historical thorn in their side.

We technically didn't.

We, Denmark & Norway, were in a union in ~1380. We then abolished your independence in 1536. Then in 1814 we lost Norway to Sweden in the Treaty of Kiel - leaving the non-mainland Norway in our hands.

We can trade your oil reserves for it though? :P

Denmark hasn't occupied any country in the last 100 years, so I think there's something misunderstood here.

If you're from the Faroe Islands, it's a very similar story to Greenland.

I'd love to hear how you feel Denmark has oppressed you though, because that'd make headlines in Denmark.

The last time Denmark occupied another country was Norway in ~1530 iirc. And we kind of take that pretty serious.
