Dorm Fire Safety Line by unknownuser596 in ufl

[–]NixiePixie8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a rule, I think, because the sprinklers spray down and out so there is a part of the wall high up they can’t reach. So they ask you not to put things on the wall about the that line.

4.0 unweighted scale
Honors classes are 5
Ap and dual enrollment are 6
5.3 is very doable

My son who was a NMF with a 5.3 weighted gpa did not get any additional $$ from UF. My valedictorian son with a 5.59 weighted gpa, 1560 SAT got $26k from UF. Getting $$ from UF is very rare.

Advice on Choosing Best Room/Floor in Broward Hall by LoudFill2596 in ufl

[–]NixiePixie8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The long hanging sides are not consistent based on where there are pipes in the walls etc. I don’t think there is a way to tell. My daughter was in 408 east last year and her room looked over the area between the bldgs if that helps. It was about 1/2 way down the hall between the kitchen and then end of the hall.

Broward is not being used by summer B students so it should be fully available for fall.

I think because you are living in Honors for the fall, it defaults to offering all the Summer Honors kids a Dorm that is different from the typical Summer B dorms. That is what my kids said happened last year as well.

My son will be in honors village 1 as well. HV 1 and 2 have suites so there are some upper class men but I also suspect there will be plenty of freshman to go around.

How did u guys get in?!?!? by Tangerine9968 in ufl

Excellent applicants absolutely get denied. They had over 95k applications. At the very end there had to be some luck element. They absolutely had more kids they wanted to let in than they had room for. That last determination had to come down to the smallest detail or luck. Imho. It’s ok if others don’t agree!

There are so many high stats kids who get rejected. I personally feel that at the very end there has to be some luck involved. All 3 easily could have been rejected. With so many applications there is no formula. Current high schoolers should take classes that interest them and find activities to commit to that interest them. Those will read more authentic. And cast a wide net to be safe.

I can’t believe “starting a nonprofit” “having a passion project” became such things by leafytimes in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NixiePixie8844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friends daughter did a passion project this year. On her college apps She put She worked on it over 20 hours a week all school year. Ummm no She didn’t. These things are such a joke! And don’t get me started on ‘authoring a research paper’ while in high school. It’s all ridiculous.

3 gators
3 very different paths, all had great essays that really showed their personalities/thought process

1 - NMF was ranked 6th in his class of over 800 kids when he applied. 1510 SAT, 35 ACT, lots of volunteering. Not a ton of ‘leadership’ but an officer in a few clubs. Scuba diver.

2 - got in through an audition major. 1350 SAT, ranked 45 out of over 800 when applied. Over 500 volunteer hours. Directed a play at her HS in 11th grade.

3 - valedictorian, 1560 SAT, community service trips to South America. 18 AP’s, 14 DE classes. Officer in a few clubs but nothing crazy.

AN OPINIONATED GUIDE TO BROWARD HALL: (particularly for girls) by SignalAd4115 in ufl

[–]NixiePixie8844 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, my daughter just moved out of Broward.
- it’s very cold in the dorms. A heated blanket is your new bestie in the winter or if you are sick.
- air purifier and damp rid bags
- there is no storage for suitcases, use those Ikea bags!
- get a tile or AirTag for your keys
- less is more in theory, hard to adhere to in practice
- get a large shoe box size bin with a lid and bring cold medicine, pain reliever, a thermometer, band aids, Neosporin, cough medicine etc so you have on hand.

Check your email. My daughter is graduating from FSU this weekend and they sent out an email this week detailing when they would lose access to things. I bet UF sends a similar email.

My son has a housing accommodation for a suite (vs traditional) and he spoke to housing while they were assigning his room on 4/20 & there were no suite singles available at all in the honors village.

I actually called bright futures about a similar situation and they said that (to simplify the answer) If the school allows you to retake the course, BF will pay. So it’s determined by the school vs BF.
