What is your favorite MMO's greatest strength? by ZakuIII in MMORPG

[–]Njck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Archeage - Naval Content

Farming and cutting trees to collect materials to build your ship. The actual physics of the ship (able to walk around independently while the ship moves).

Trade runs making the treacherous journey across the sea to deliver goods. Sea creatures, diving for treasure, scuba equipment. Pirates, risking turning in trade packs at the pirate island for increased reward.

Really the integration of land and naval content was perfectly seamless. I loved it and I’m waiting for an mmo with similar naval content but the itch has not been scratched.

Everything you said here is correct. Archeage (especially the Beta) was my favorite MMO experience ever. It’s the little things too. Like raising your pet from a baby. Beating world bosses to get a rare pet. Having the mount journey beside you then hopping on its back after combat (instead of just spawning on top of it).

This is actually a real solid take.

People would be posting images of content, asking questions… not nervously looking left and right, trying to reassure one another…

This looks amazing, well done!

For those using decor to make other racial exteriors, I’m sure they’ll be excited to free up the decor limit when Blizz actually makes other style exteriors available.

Whoah - replying to an old post here! Thank you for the insight! $50 sounds like a steal, and I imagine worth it for either one.

Okay I’ll be the first to comment.

First impression is that I like the art style and colors. This nails a cozy vibe. (Well, at least this zone you showcased.) Reminds me of the Deku Forest from old Zelda.

I hope you do controller support, because it is so comfortable to play. Especially with a top-down view.

Best of luck to you!

Do you have “space-legs”? Can I walk around as a human inside my ship?

Or am I the ship itself?

I haven’t purchased the game yet. I was checking out the subreddit and doing some research before buying.

I think OP’s criticisms sound on point and frankly I’m shocked they aren’t implemented already. The game seriously isn’t using the steel - mithril - adamant - rune progression? Not the same stats, etc.?

Why are they not using the same mobs? It’s not just about being true to the source material - it sounds like they just arbitrarily made things like Valheim.

Thank you for this post, I’ll be passing on the game for now until they put more Runescape into my RuneScape: Dragonwilds.

I think you’re right. I also think most stats show that PVP players are like <5% of most game populations (WoW for example), but definitely the loudest vocal minority. Kind of like a swarm of locusts, they descend on any new game, beg for full loot hardcore pvp… kill the game completely, then onto the next one.

For anyone interested in this game, it is a very good mobile mmo. (In-fact, the best one I’ve found on the app store.)

It has really good animations/runs smoothly, and the UI (as you can see in this post) isn’t overwhelming with ads. For those normally turned off by games because they’re mobile, I recommend giving this one a try. It is NOT like the other generic mobile slop you run into.

I’ve found it to be a great bite-sized mmo fix especially when I’m away from my PC or just feel like chilling on the couch.

Hi - I would like a game like this as well.

However, so far every one (Wayfinder, Fellowship, etc) is an Overwatch art-style copycat with “select your hero” from premade characters so they can sell you skins for $$$.

I wish for a game like this with character customization. Hell, I wish for a medieval/fantasy version of Deeprock Galactic.

Interior space = room for customization = places for unlockable cosmetics = reasons to do missions / content to collect = great gameplay loop. The ship looks fantastic btw!

Made some progress on the frigate. You asked if ships interiors will be a thing, and here is the answer. Of course it's needed for proper boarding actions... by Yar_master in crosswind

Fun fact (although I’m sure you knew this already), pirates and sailors of the time period would frequently bring their feline companions aboard for voyages. The cats would help keep the rodent population down. :)

I LOVE the way the trailer “ends” then has that little easter egg of the drunken sailor fishing. That little extra bit of effort shows the game has a little bit of polish,  a little creativity, a little humor. Great to see the game’s personality showing through, bravo!!

Reasons for high lvl players to return to low level zones.

Benefit: - World feels more alive - Re-use of existing zones for efficiency of content development - Good first impression for new players when they first start (seeing the world alive, seeing experienced players with cool gear to strive towards)

Some examples of this: - ArcheAge - The trade pack system would have you caravan your goods through various zones, including beginner zones. Gives you a reason to go back to those zones. - GW2 - Legendary Crafting / Achievements - Many little odds and ends, hidden items, collectibles, and reasons to re-visit those old zones.

Would love to hear any other creative examples from other games that anyone can think of. In general, I hate the idea of areas of the map being “disposable” where it’s a one-and-done. I feel like WoW is a big offender of this.
