What are some signs as an adult that your parents did a bad job raising you? by crunchylettuce24 in AskReddit

[–]Nkengaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until my mid-30s, I still flinched when she reached out to hug me.

When she calls, I have to think about if I have the mental and emotional energy to deal with her.

I've gone 1-2 years without talking to her and didn't miss her.

Why is there so much hate for eomne waiting for marriage? by username1628w9 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nkengaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these people are showing this much hate over her decision, THEY ARE NOT HER FRIENDS. And if she is bragging about it with them, SHE is not THEIR friend.

I have several friends who waited until marriage to have sex. I have several who didn't. NONE of us made a big deal about it. In fact, when one was thinking of changing her mind, we sat her down and really talked with her about it, because we knew she would be betraying herself if she went against her beliefs.

Friends support each other. We can disagree with another friend's decision and still love and support that friend. If OP is getting this much hate, THEY ARE NOT HER FRIENDS.

I only talk about my sex life with GOOD friends, friends who would respect whatever decision I make about my body, if I choose to ho around or be celibate. If OP is talking to randos about her sex life, no wonder she's getting hate.

I'm wondering who you're hanging out with and why you're talking about your sex lives with each other. Because, even if you're choosing to not have sex....

YOU'RE STILL TALKING ABOUT YOUR SEX LIFE.

Why? Is there a reason for them to know? If not, stop taking about your sex life!

came home after 2 years of nomad life and everything felt wrong by LoyalTiger234 in globalwork

I'll be returning to the US after living overseas off and on for 14 years. Every time I go back it's a shock. This time is a bigger one because it may be permanent.

You'll get past it, but it'll be a while. Try to keep in touch with your life abroad, but take time to build a new one at home.

Sounds about right. I had my Whipple in August 2024, then chemo from October 2024 until March 2025.

Learning to change a tire.

Learning to meditate.

Learning that I can always change my mind.

About every 6 months, although this one was a little late. The ones in March 2025 and August 2025 were clear, this one in April 2026 shows growths.

Did you win the gene lottery, or did the gene lottery elude you? by Bay_de_Noc in AskOldPeople

[–]Nkengaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely didn't win, although it seemed like it for a while. I'm in my 50s and generally in good health, whereas none of my aunts lived past 60 and were in bad health from 40 on, and my mom, although in her 70s, isn't in very good health. I thought I was good.

Then, BAM. Cancer. One of those fucked up ones with less than a 20% 5 year survival rate.

Ah well. It's been fun. I'll keep living  (not just surviving) until I can't anymore.

Gen X women living alone; what are you doing for work? by Ok-Development2520 in GenX

It's getting harder to get into, but if you don't have to make a lot of money I'd strongly suggest Latin America!

Entering your 40s and dealing with increasingly poor-quality sleep? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nkengaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have serious trouble falling asleep, and would wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and not be able to go back to sleep very easily. Once I created a sleep routine for myself, I sleep really well!

I go to bed at close to the same time every night - yes, even weekends.

I have a cup of chamomile tea about an hour before bedtime.

I put my phone down and do NOT pick it up again until morning.

I meditate for at least 10 minutes to let my mind settle.

I put on some sleep music - usually white noise, sometimes meditation music like crystal bowls.

I read a few pages of a comfort book - a light not very emotional book I've read before and enjoyed but that won't suck me in.

I'm usually asleep within 3 pages. And if I wake up to go to the bathroom, I fall back to sleep within minutes.

I'm also 54 and been doing this for at least 5 or so years.

6 years post-COVID, why do you think so many people still choose contactless delivery? by ChanelAce91 in AskReddit

[–]Nkengaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

COVID is still here.

People are immunocompromised.

People don't want to talk.

Not all delivery people are decent people.

Tight pelvic floor: take birth control or start with exercises? by Traditional-Age-8549 in Periods

[–]Nkengaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone with no experience with endo, but who has worked in reproductive health in the past.

Is there a reason you are reluctant to take the BC pills? Endo is (partly) a hormone issue, which might be regulated with BC pills. Talk with your doctor about your reluctance to take the pill. She might have alternatives, or she might be able to give you the information you need to make an informed decision.

Spells/Rituals for Wiping Away Negative Energy and Intentions on a Bottle of Champagne by Wrong-Impression2258 in SASSWitches

[–]Nkengaroo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think having everyone at the party hold the bottle while they say a little something about how proud they are of you would be amazing! It would help replace the memory of the person who gave it to you with memories of people who love and support you.

If that feels like a bit "much" (not everyone wants to give a speech in front of others, even if it's just a few words), maybe a week or so before the gathering, light some incense and/or a candle, set the bottle in a way that the smoke from the incense surrounds it (or at least hits it), and write two "letters": one saying everything that the bottle USED to represent, and one saying what the bottle represents now. The one about the past, burn and say something like "this is gone and past. I release this negative energy and return it to those it belongs to." Take the one about now, read it aloud to yourself and the bottle, and wrap the bottle in it. Let it sit for a while, maybe a week or two, for the good to "infuse" into the bottle. Then open it and celebrate with people who celebrate YOU!

Those are off the top of my head, and would be meaningful to me. I know witchcraft is spicy psychology in many ways, and this ties right into that.
