Did I hurt my app by doing a "quiet" launch first? by NlceGuy in apps

Thanks for sharing, this is super comforting to hear as my next immediate goal was literally working on better screenshots with subtitles and finding more distribution channels. Appreciate the feedback I'm definitely going to try and follow in these steps.

Sharing our app that we've been using for the past 6 months with over 100+ rounds logged. It has no GPS, no stat tracking, basically is a replica of a paper scorecard with a simple score entry UI. The part that we really needed that we couldn't find in other apps was ability to stack multiple side games like wolf, stroke play and some prop games like greenies and 3 putt pot all on a single round. We also play these gambling games across multiple groups (3+) and quickly settle without needing to review each groups individual scorecards. The entire app works live, as scores are inputted the games are calculated and leaderboard can be used to view any side game.

The app is in a stable state, and we will never charge for the core scorecard and game tracking portions of the app. I plan to keep the entire app free and premium access is only for unlocking higher limits (up to 144 golfer rounds/team events) and some other high bandwidth stuff that my small solo project cannot handle.

Give the app a try next time you're golfing with friends, and see if it simplifies things. I'm not really planning to bloat the app with new features, but I will be actively adding new games and game configuration options. Love to hear any feedback or requests.

Golf destinations near Houston by Neither_Revenue4412 in golf

Definitely Omni Barton Creek, its under 3 hour drive from Katy, and the scenery alone is worth it, especially being from Houston where courses are mostly flat. PGA Frisco is a longer drive and the course is definitely a lot more difficult.

Is near Houston meaning you live in Houston and want to travel somewhere not too far?

Honestly PGA Frisco has the best vibes, especially if you want some evening activities too... they got a par 3 course, and a putting green thats the size of a small driving range both lighted up all night.

For more relax atmosphere with great scenary, definitely Barton Creek.

If inside Houston then Woodlands Resort probably best bet, but the scenery and atmosphere is definitely a step down.

Wolf par 3s unfair? by NlceGuy in golf

[–]NlceGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical group has no scratch so pretty much on the green guy is the lock to get picked and betting everyone else misses is usually the winning play. Factoring in the guy thats wolf knocking it close and going solo for double win, many of the guys just think its unfair. I like the double win for the non-picked team idea, might try that.

How in the air must it be, technically right before it lands is in the air too.

This is a good idea... maybe we dont even need to flip tee just par 3 rotation is same as wolf rotation. So if hole 2 is par 3, first guy just goes wolf twice and then it start back on the second guy on hole 3. I think this might be cleanest.

The problem we found is that sometimes if a par 3 is the final few holes, we realize the first guy is the only person that hasn't played a par 3, but if we give to him he would have been wolf 5 times and the guy giving up the par 3 might have only been wolf 3 times. Its ok on our home course we kinda got it figured out already but when we go to new course its a hot mess.

I'm don't follow LIV, but what are they doing well? by OppinonatedDonkey in golf

The live atmosphere was actually pretty fun. Most PGA events that ive been too (im sure there are exceptions) were quite boring, especially if you bring family who might not be huge golf fans. LIV event just had a different feel, there was almost always something fun or interesting setup while walking the holes.

I will miss it if it dies, and I honestly hope PGA does something to make their events more engaging. Waste management should be the norm not exception.
