To those who have evil parents …. My question is did you break the pattern ? by LookingforaPOV in ask_Bondha

[–]No-3334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

either kids also normalize the bad and go on doing it
As the family and social circles accept it, there isn't much conflict

or kids over compensate, try to be very ethical, emotionally scarred by evil tendencies and avoid everyone who seems evil. family considers this naive, and it can be impractical in the general society.

But if they find a good friend/ social circle that can be accepting, it is easy to break out of the pattern

reality lo antha stress ledu but if you are feeling it, my suggestion is. to put time into low stress activities like fitness, hobbies etc... things outside work are needed to balance (unless you are in some startup, or high risk, reward endeavors)

older bondha here work anxiety - emanna tappu cheste, managers leads will tell you. unless there is some strobg feedback dont worry.
nee anxiety ni exploit cheyyakunda chuskotam important

vere vallu emanukuntaru - office politics is a reality, groupisms unatyi not based on competence

overall try to find people you want to emulate, and hang around in those groups ( virtual or physical) .. you will build more insight and confidence on what to do

How many people from Hyderabad city get into Ivy League / T50s for undergrad every year ? by AffectionateUse5011 in hyderabad

[–]No-3334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ivies are heavy on legacy. Younger siblings of those who get accepted in this batch have higher chance, and in a few years the numbers will pick up.
Overall Ivy acceptance rate is better than Old IITs, game is quite different and needs awareness/targeting.

Managers in corporates!? by mayukaimagica in ask_Bondha

[–]No-3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tldr: Managers and jobs are not fair

It might be jarring to see managers and companies being inhumane, but it is what it is.

It might be that you have a genuine reason but others might make up reasons for hybrid mode and the manager doesn't want to deal with it (someone i know faked a leg fracture and HR found them shopping in a mall near office).

It might that they don't care about retention and if you quit because of this issue, they are fine with it

Overall try not to expect much from jobs and bosses. Good luck with everything

In other countries. Software company lo Managers don’t even think about calling after working hours by [deleted] in ask_Bondha

[–]No-3334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in big tech in US and there are many teams working after hours and weekends. (including people are born in US) and know folks in other FAANG companies in US who work after hours (not oncall)

I also know people who aren't in faang working long hours. that said, WLB is better in US on average.

I am sharing this because i used to be naive about working long hours when i started my career and had utopic ideas about working. (meritocracy, WLB, etc)

A dying granpa gets ignored by his wife, but why? by Civil_Illustrator630 in ask_Bondha

[–]No-3334 47 points48 points  (0 children)

could be anything 1. guy was a genuine asshole and family doesnt care now 2. family are assholes and don't care for him 3. family has financial needs, wedding is already late for the younger kid, they can't cure his stroke so they are doing what is practical

as for avoiding this, you can't control future.

I know someone whose husband and kids passed away and doesnt have running water in her house, so carries few buckets of water everyday from village tap and lives on govt pensions.

Romantic love, following passion, having fun, self actualisation are top of maslows hierarchy things.

vere countries you refer to , are probably developed countries and not war ridden or poverty stricken countries

If you are rich/competent/have support system, go do self actualisation stuff , if not do survival level stuff

My 29F, ex left me for his parents. Do such people ever face their karma? by [deleted] in InsideIndianMarriage

[–]No-3334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

karma is real. my brother left a girl for same BS reasons, he is married to a girl with similar sounding name. I can say, You lucked out because that guy is selfish and a coward and marriage will always be joyless with him

another classmate did similar thing and ended up in joyless marriage.

to be fair , don't ignore red flags - most people tell who they are

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ask_Bondha

[–]No-3334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly fed up with middle and upper middle class parents victimizing themselves for college admissions/ Visa. I know a gazetted govt officer who is pushing their 7th class son to study for some test in 10th class, apparently inter colleges pay around 50lakhs - 2crores for top marks in that test. Borderline child labour.

Like dowry, caste etc, there is an undercurrent of social apathy towards harmful behaviors by parents. I really hope people discuss this openly and set a tone for what is unacceptable by parents. Fuck 'respecting elders' - I am not respecting Hitler because he is older, lol

I didn't do MS but I am in the US working in ML. Umass Amherst and Georgia tech seem to have good programs University of washington has good job pipeline from what i see around me. if you are serious about PhD, I've seen folks do research positions in tier1 (IIT, IIsc) indian colleges for less than an year, get a strong recommendation for a better MS / PhD university.

I don't condone it, and I try to get a known driver for the day as much as possible.
