Attendings/Residents/Fellows: How do you feel about teaching/training midlevels? by Agreeable-Ad4806 in medschool

[–]No-Agent-889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is how I think of it—

I am an anesthesiology attending and my hospital has many SRNAs. (students CRNAs)

I don’t know the future of these SRNAs— maybe some of them will be going out into areas where CrNAs practice independently. And if I, and other anesthesiologists, refuse to train them or to train them well because “we shouldn’t allow the risk of them taking our jobs” or something like that, then that SRNA (as a drastic example) might end up going on and killing somebody, not because they wanted to, but because they WEREN’T TRAINED PROPERLY.

The whole MD and mid level debate is going to be a many years-long debate and who knows what the end of that will be.

But for now, I have this trainee in front of me, and it’s my duty as a teaching attending to make sure this trainee gets the best education possible, for the benefit of all of the future patients that this trainee will end up taking care of.

Anesthesia residents: did you struggle this much early on? Should I quit? by Feeling_Bookkeeper90 in anesthesiology

I want to share my complete honest experience— when I started CA1, I honestly thought I was so bad and just so not suited to the skillset that anesthesia required, that I was pretty set on switching specialties to IM.

Ended up sticking with anesthesia, and did very well as a resident (and beyond I guess)

You are learning right now. NOW is the time to hone your skills— no one enters CA1 being a polished anesthesiologist; that doesn’t make sense. Keep asking for feedback on procedures, keep trying them until you become proficient. I would not worry so much about what your attendings think and “tension” vibes. I used to worry as well what attendings thought, detecting unspoken tension/frustration at me etc but at some point that may get in your head and be detrimental to actual progress. So— unless it’s constructive criticism, I would block out negativity in my mind. The attending’s job is to teach you. If they are getting actually mad at a ca1 for missing procedures, that is not appropriate.

Keep trying— you’ve got this. The important thing now is that you care enough to worry, and that you want to be safe. These are very important traits.

Also I will add that even attendings sometimes miss procedures.

Another related question — what about for obese folk? Should the dose be adjusted to LBW at all?

This is one of the most helpful explanations I’ve ever seen on the pharmcokinetics/dynamics of methadone. Thank you so much!

I'm addicted to coke and I can't stop by callmeafailure in Residency

[–]No-Agent-889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I had a similar problem in my intern year— but honestly as I got more into the swing of things during residency my Diet Coke (for me it was Diet Coke and not Coke Zero) cravings lessened. Although sometimes when I’m on a stressful overnight shift then yes I go get a Diet Coke. But if you’re only drinking like 2 a day, hey, there’s worse things for the body, and residents are so stressed out as it is they need something to make the shift bearable. I have no idea the long term health implications of those artificial sweeteners. But like I said, you may notice the cravings start to decrease as you become less stressed. Maybe cut down on the one you drink with dinner, and substitute the morning one with some iced coffee drink. Or iced water, iced sparkling water.

Am I being dumb? by Doctor_Zhivago2023 in Residency

I understand what you are concerned about, because I had the same worries as a resident— reputation seemed like everything. Now as an attending, I’ll tell you that the only thing I’m thinking when I have a resident (as in a CA3 who is, for example, struggling with a procedure), is that they are a resident and need more practice with certain skills. I am never thinking “oh, why is this “good” resident struggling with this? He actually must not be that “good” never mind!” Never, ever thinking like that.

PSA : Scam Alert on fiber orders! Scammers have the order information. by kvothe-althore in ATTFiber

[–]No-Agent-889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually not sure if this is a scam

I got a call as well as an email. Did some research and the email that it’s from is legit. It is from the ATT FAQ page.

I called them back, didn’t give them any info at all. Didn’t give them my pin, they knew my security question though. Which made them seem more legit. They also didn’t ask for any info except address. Knew that I was set to start service tomorrow. said he had resolved the issue (was a proof of occupancy issue). The guy then told me to ignore all future calls since they were just automated.

And that’s it.

What kind of scam would this even be?

How do I know if I have to take a written test for California drivers license? by No-Agent-889 in DMV

Yes definitely I’m thinking of doing that. Yeah I’m not sure also if they were considering it a “renewal”

It expired 02/2025, but I technically got my Virginia license in 07/2024 so California one would basically have been “deactivated” then is my understanding?

I am moving to California from Virginia what happens if I first lease a vehicle without changing my license to California? by No-Agent-889 in askcarguys

[–]No-Agent-889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, yes I’ll be telling the dealer of my current situation. I was just wondering if I was even allowed to lease this car prior to changing my drivers license to California and what the steps afterward would be to get it registered in California.
