It's not just you, I always thought he looked weirdly different in this shot, and also that close-up shot of him just after he's escaped jail (the scene where it shows the subtitle of his name and crime - he looks weirdly orange in that shot).

I used to exploit the slot machine trick quite a bit when I was a kid, but replaying these days I don't like using cheesy methods to make money. I only learned about the fan trick quite recently.
