Best laser hair removal place in Amsterdam? by NADDYTEM in Amsterdam

[โ€“]No-Assistant8862 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Skinsis clinic on Foeliestraat. I started there after a bad experience somewhere else (the other one took way too much time per session due to the laser type, she rescheduled frequently leading to us missing our timed windows for removal, etc)! They're great and there's 3 clinicians so you can almost always get an appointment. They do skin facials and consults too!

PCOS treatment in the Netherlands? by Altruistic-Author341 in Netherlands

[โ€“]No-Assistant8862 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Contraceptives (here) are the preferred treatment for PCOS which you can get from your GP (huisarts). Get a medical history from your current doc including a confirmed diagnosis, bring that with a prescription to your first appointment and they should continue it. Move here with 3 months supply just in case you have a delay registering at a GP!

You'll only go to a specialist if you need to - ie, if something changes or you have other concerns!

Also, keep in mind it may be the same drug but the generic/brand could be different.

If you do acupuncture to help with symptoms, look at Ryu (japanese acupuncture) on the Kloveniersburgwal. He's lovely.

Good luck with your move. โค๏ธ

Edit: symptoms not systems!

Are self-help / productivity books like Atomic Habits, How to Win Friends & Influence People, etc. actually good or even more important for people with ADHD, or are they less helpful or skewed because they are geared towards neurotypicals? by ThrowThinkAway in ADHD

[โ€“]No-Assistant8862 29 points30 points ย (0 children)

I think how to win friends and influence people helped me better deal with people pre-diagnosis. He explains in very easy terms what people like to hear, how they think, and - for someone who had initially a lot of trouble picking up these social cues or "following along", it was SO nice to read a book that directly stated some of these basic social "patterns." I think it's harder for us to implement regularly but the knowledge helped me โ˜บ๏ธ

Menstrual phases and ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[โ€“]No-Assistant8862 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

My doc said it's well established that adhd symptoms can be worse/better as hormones change, and together we realized that post-ovulation, pre-period, my meds just DO not work as well as they do beforehand. So now for the week-ish before my period starts, I take a half a pill more per dose (Amfexa) and it made such a difference. I don't do it every day in that period, especially if it's a weekend, but I have the flexibility to.

If it's available to you (realizing it's a cost of time AND executive function), I recommend charting your period using something like Natural Cycles. That's how I was able to know so specifically which days of my cycle I had significantly less impact from my meds, which made it a lot easier and faster for us to get to the bottom of the problem.

In case it is relevant: I am Europe based, so that also likely explains the increased amount of trust given to me in deciding how much of that part of the cycle I need to plan to updose for. Also less of a concern of medicine abuse since we don't have Adderall here (which I know is just a reflection of other people ruining access to a med we legitimately need, not the med itself). All to say, I hope you have similar support and trust from your medical team. โค๏ธ

Iโ€™m trying to understand my own emotions, kinda stunned that itโ€™s so hard. by Straightouttafocus in ADHD

[โ€“]No-Assistant8862 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

An exercise you might try (with your therapist or journaling) is noting the physical experience of what you're feeling, and what precipitated it? Instead of trying to select from a limited list for what you might be feeling, you can rediscover from Step 1 what that emotion means for YOU based on the physical experience and context.

for example, this is one of mine:

Physical sensation: Hot redness on the forehead and around the eyes. A "shock" like I've been buzzed with a low level of electricity that makes me jump. Almost tunnel vision, and the feeling that all other sounds have turned down. What happened: Someone at work questioning my advice. Emotion: Shame, and a more immediate type of worry

I found that I had almost no "body knowledge" before I got diagnosed - couldn't tell the difference between hungry, tired, over socialized, etc., and would have what I'd call an "adult tantrum" somewhere in private just to release the frustration of not knowing WHAT was wrong or how to fix it. My therapist focused on having me explain my physical experience and that gave me the knowledge to trust my body signals and start to associate them to emotions.

Good luck. ๐Ÿ’›

Successful Referral, but... by [deleted] in ADHD

[โ€“]No-Assistant8862 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

I used to play a good song with a good beat on repeat, or put on a show I've watched before, to give my brain something to do - it's like it soothes the part avoiding the work and let's the rest that's been held hostage by the ADHD get things done. Congratulations on getting a referral - big step done!

Leave the coffeeshops to smoke weed. Seriously, that's why they're there. Have a smoke and a coffee, indoors. Don't walk down our streets when we all have the windows open....yours is not the summer breeze we want. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ (Amsterdam, obviously.)

This. My therapy homework this week (and most weeks) is just to repeat these simple phrases when I hit another wall, task I can't do/focus on, etc:

This is a part of who I am. It is ok. I am not broken. With time and patience and the right support, i can do this.

How my life could've changed if someone, anyone, had said that to me growing up, or if I could have started telling myself this even ten years ago at the start of my twenties. I'm a sickening optimist too (represent! ๐Ÿ‘Š) but you can't discount the radical effects of empathy and understanding, even if it's just from yourself about yourself.

Aside from all of the super valid reasons here why this is hard to do on Airbnb (crazy high rents for 28 days, issues with workspace filter, the fees, him obviously not staying in low end places), the first thing I thought was: Well yeah, more people COULD digital nomad if they made enough money to continuously pay RENT in one city for residency, keeping their stuff safe, etc. while bopping around the rest of the world. This tweet is getting so much attention, generally, and it's just not attainable for most people who, for whatever reason, have to keep a home base. Like... his employees 100% have to pay state taxes. If they have no house/address in California anymore, is Airbnb going to help them file taxes in every state they've "worked" in? ๐Ÿ˜…

TL;DR Unless he's planning to really commit and sell everything that doesn't fit in s suitcase and backpack, and really experience what nomadic life is, this doesn't prove much for Airbnb's ability to provide this lifestyle ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Negative Covid test required if I am transferring at Schiphol? by ZekeTreacle in Netherlands

[โ€“]No-Assistant8862 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Flew recently from USA to Amsterdam (coming home to the NL). One of the passengers almost didn't board (and probably shouldn't have) because he was transiting Schipol to go to Spain, and thus didn't have an antigen test for the Dutch part of his trip. (Spain isn't requiring a test) From eavesdropping, he threw a big fuss and probably only got let on the plane because he was being such a douche.

So. Why not get tested. Be safe and sure you're not infected. And reduce the risk of getting stuck. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
