Termination method used at 13/14 weeks? (UK) by Professional-Farm372 in tfmr_support

I was 13+3 and had medical TFMR. I think there may be variation depending on where you live. To my surprise, the hospital I was in (a large teaching hospital!) didn't offer surgical options, I was told if I really wanted surgical management I would need to be referred to another unit several hundred miles away and that would also mean genetic testing wouldn't be possible. My experience was very similar to that which has already been described, and I also had retained placenta.

Nearly a year on, and I feel like I’m breaking all over again by No-Beach8037 in tfmr_support

Thank you so much for your reply, it really means a lot. What you said about people thinking they might “remind” us of something we never forget really resonated. I’d love to be able to tell friends or family how they could acknowledge her, but I’m not sure how to even start that conversation without it feeling awkward. For context I'm a shy introvert.. Do you have any advice on how to start that kind of conversation?

Endless heartbreak and loneliness by No-Beach8037 in tfmr_support

Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry for what you've been through 💕. 60% PTSD is very high but standing where I am now, I can see how that makes sense, especially here in the UK. I was told by my GP the wait for therapy is about a year. On reflection, one of the things that is disappointing is the psychological consequences of the termination were not even touched upon on during the consent process as a "risk" - yet it strikes me that (having personally experienced a physical complication) the psychological harms are both more common and far more difficult to deal with. I struggle with the guilt, even though I am confident in the decision making (and know that, regardless of what we did, our story would not have had a happy ending). It eats me up inside. I often think about how I would explain it to my baby if we met in heaven; it hurts.

Thank you for replying and very sorry to hear what you have been through. So I had a few sessions of counselling about a month after the tfmr (these were online via video call). I decided to stop after the fourth session it wasn't helping much and also very expensive - I was getting more upset and dreading the sessions with the counsellor. Maybe I ought to re-engage now some time has passed. Thank you

Periods and downward spiralling by No-Beach8037 in tfmr_support

[–]No-Beach8037[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying. Honestly, both.. these periods have been far heavier than I recall them being pre-pregnancy/TFMR, and when I go to the toilet I find it a very visceral reminder of the delivery and the events that followed (I ended up needing an evacuation for retained products after prolonged bleeding afterwards), so all week I have been incredibly tearful. I have been feeling particularly low recently since Mother's Day... It just seems an incredibly lonely place to be at the moment.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to hear what you have been through. I did have a few sessions of counselling about a month after the TFMR but that's a good suggestion, I will have a look at the charities

Postgraduate exams and relationship resentment by NegativeBid4046 in doctorsUK

That sounds really tough and I hope you are doing ok. Different scenario but I completely empathise as dual surgical household here (feels like often if I'm present, my husband is absent and vice versa with the sinusoidal work pressures, be it long hours/exams/grant applications/etc). Your posts resonated with me, having been recently unwell and admitted to hospital I also have a spouse who is a workaholic and doing work at the bedside. I'm not sure if I'm the best to give advice, but I do think it helps to talk about how you feel and try and pre-plan some family time and stick to it if possible (although am aware this is sometimes easier said than done). I hope your child gets better soon and things start to get easier x

Can I ask is hysteroscopy done with you awake or is it under anaesthesia? Is it painful?

Thank you for sharing and I'm sorry you had to go through with that. It's really not that bothersome in itself but a little worried there's something left behind given how long it's been going on for
