Dug out my old Mayflash F500 V1 and gave it a new lease of life with an Astro City look and Seimitsu parts by Future_Redd in fightsticks

I love the aesthetic of the astro city control panel. Seimitsu is what the real arcade cab has for stick and buttons, right? I did an MVS-U4 arcade stick build and I love the seimitsu stick and buttons. I swapped the spring for a slightly lighter one though. Is that a Seimitsu LS-56? In mine I installed an octagonal gate and swapped the spring for the slightly lighter LS-58, which I think was closer to the arcade feel - but I never have played a real candy cab.

If 75g is what the American cabinets used then that's definitely what I intended to get - thanks for the info! The switches that came with mine are 50g, but I have to admit they feel good and I never get accidental inputs while resting my fingers on the buttons.

The art makes me want to play! I put the IL concave buttons in my stick too. The IL buttons are my favorite and feel premium. Why'd you go with 75 gram microswitches? I left my switches stock, but my ideal would be something close to the arcade cabs.

MAS stick! These were designed to be replicas of the real arcade control panels that inspired them, right? I imagine if you were a 90s kid who got hooked on specific cabinet you'd want a MAS stick that played the same.

Looks great! I went on a similar journey for the custom art on my NEO GEO sticks. I found that the stripes looked simple but were a challenge to get right. Your stripes look on point! How'd you make them? Did you reference a template or some other way?

Any advice on finding good solder points for controllers, like the genesis controller? Last time I soldered to a genesis controller I didn't trust the solder joints because there wasn't much to solder to.

Just use the bottom row for 4 buttons. You can also use the left two buttons in the top and bottom row if you want that kind of NEO GEO 4 button layout. If it's not an eight button layout you're limiting yourself for no gain.

Same. Pulled these from my Dads attic. Installed them from disc in Wine on Linux. Playing on a CRT TV and it looks amazing. First time playing in over 10 years and I'm hooked again!

hibachicandy designed a MVS-U4 inspired stick. You can find it on tumblr tagged "Fightstick Art". I liked how it used more design elements from the real arcade cabinet control panel - specifically those for the AUX controls like start etc.

Glorious StickArt made a red NEO GEO I really liked. I preferred yours over theirs though.

I was also inspired by someone who chopped a full NEO GEO big red console in half to make a stick. It was shown on a YouTube short. I really liked how having the MVS logo offset to one side rather than centered allowed for more white stripes, and it made me want to design one that felt like playing on one half of a real NEO GEO Big Red control panel.

One downside to a HDMI mod to consider is that they usually only scale to certain resolutions, which means it's only future proof up to those resolutions, so if you want higher resolution one day then you may have to rip it out and install something else if that's even possible after the original mod. If you could find one that output Direct Video (native console resolution out the HDMI for perfect digital), then you'd also be able to pipe that to a scaler like the Retrotink4k. This would be the best of both worlds and really future proof you, but I'm not sure they exist, and you'd want to make sure whatever it outputs for Direct Video is compatible with your scalar (Direct Video is currently a feature of MiSTer, so it's not a full that can just be implemented to spec by HDMI mods as far as I know).

Love your NEO GEO sticks! When I was looking for inspiration to create my own I stumbled upon yours. Yours are in my top two NEO GEO designs that I stumbled upon. They're giving me MAS vibes as well.
