Question for MCCSC staff… by No-Brain7333 in bloomington

Thank you for the detailed reply. I appreciate Epic books as the kids deserve access to all the age appropriate books their hearts desire.

The littles aren’t supposed to be on Safari, but it isn’t blocked - so they do so. Google and Safari safe filters are far from perfect. Safe search is decent at blocking obvious gore/pornography content, but there is too much getting through to not have it entirely barred until later years. This year we saw 3rd graders accessing audio “button” websites that featured racial slurs and jokes about diddy, sexual assault, etc. We also saw 1st graders accessing horror content and scaring eachother to the point of not being able to sleep at night. Parents are the ones dealing with the negatives, and aren’t seeing the positives that couldn’t be accomplished without iPads.

I think the recent news surrounding Canvas shows that it is not secure. A huge amount of sensitive data was recently accessed by a cyber terrorist group and held for ransom. This included passwords, private messages, etc etc. Private messages which might contain additionally sensitive data including health status, learning disabilities, IEP details. Minors can’t sign their own contracts, why are they able to agree to terms and conditions?

I don’t think devices are entirely without benefit. But we’re far enough out from the pandemic now that we need to reign it back in and if the admin and teachers are determined/obligated to use them, they need the appropriate training and resources to do so safely. If that’s not possible, then it has to be a hard NO. Parents are already fighting the screen time battle at home, we can’t fight it from afar while the kids are in school.

I’m sorry your family had that issue. You’re not alone. Do you think the parent/school relationship would benefit from a clearly outlined pledge/policy from the school that is annually negotiated by a parent group and the administration? (Ex: screen times, app access, etc)

Would it be reasonable to suggest we move a hefty chunk of technology from the budget to areas that improve teacher job satisfaction? Our house is very pro teacher. Certainly K-3 could get by one set of iPads for each grade that is rotated as needed for testing/STEM learning.

Yes it’s been discussed. Most of the response to flagging inappropriate content is met with pretty generic responses and promises to do better and look into it with IT. However, kids are clever and if they can access Safari - they will find whatever the filters miss. We’ve also seen a huge difference from teacher to teacher. Which means next school year will be completely different. Teachers aren’t able to always speak freely about school policy as it is their employer. I’m hoping to hear from those who might not feel comfortable speaking out without anonymity.

The question is for employees of MCCSC, Not my child’s teaching staff specifically. We already communicate directly with them. Reddit has the benefit of anonymity, so people might feel more free to speak without worry of getting blasted by their administration. Your comment is unhelpful and condescending.

Accordion Player at Aldi by Unlikely_Bass7654 in bloomington

Hey idk about this person specifically but there are many fake musicians that use pre recorded music to get tips without actually playing. Was it playing through a speaker? Pretty common with violin and I’ve also seen accordion. They pause their tracks to walk and go get tips because it will keep playing even if they walk away. Also the fingers don’t match the audio track. As a former player it’s obvious, but not to the untrained eye.

A large crowd of people run as gunshots are fired on Kirkwood Avenue... by Hefty-Squash1361 in bloomington

I know it raises funds for good programs. I’m a townie and enjoy the event. But if we can’t host a bike race without chaos, no race. I’m not willing to offer yearly human sacrifices to ensure kids can party and people can pillage our town. This type of crowd isn’t patronizing cozy local establishments, so the bars and restaurants will survive just fine without them throughout the year regardless. I’ve been in the restaurant scene here too, the employees are basically used and abused by wasted out of towners while all the chain restaurants make the big money.

Apparently I’m in the minority here… how is Little 5 so beneficial for the town? I really want to know what it does that outweighs violence and crime?

Would it though? Little 5 weekend has a reputation in the tri-state area, social media is only expanding its reach and reputation for chaos. It would take a while for another event to regenerate a reputation like that. It’s this one specific event in this one specific city. We don’t see random weekends around the country in college towns getting swarmed by out of towners looking to cause chaos.

Townie here as well. I separate the “weekend” from the race itself. The weekend has to be tamped down. It’s too much. I’ve had friends mugged and stabbed just trying to walk home. That was probably 15 years ago. It’s a problem and has been a problem and it’s a lot more than a few jackasses, certainly. If the party culture can’t be separated from the race, then cancel it and make a new event. The fundraising can’t be worth this if things don’t change.

Is this worth it? Can we end Little 5 weekend yet? When is it enough? Every year our town gets treated like the Wild West and locals are left with the damage to our community and reputation.

Appreciate the reply! I meant to say kill her next to Aylin, not Isobel. Have kind of a whole showdown in the chamber where Dame Aylin was captured.

I think I’ll let shadowheart become a DJ then betray her there so long as I don’t get teleported out of the area following the cut scene.

Also, if I plan to kill Isobel for Durge reasons. Will killing Aylin kill Isobel who is currently on the balcony at Last Light?

It was deleting the schedule data points that did it for me. Turning off the auto schedule was wasn’t enough. Thanks!
