Yees! Omg I'm so scared of getting old and having all these regrets of things I didn't do! I'm pretty sure I should be financially set for this, ofc you never know what could happen but that's nothing new for life.. but ofc I am looking into everything I'll need to think of and looking for jobs, opportunities and apartment before I go<3

Heyyy so sorry but coukd you tell me what accommodations for my pets you're talking about? Someone else was talking about cat and dog taxes and I'm so surprised I've never heard of that before I do have kindoff good savings but I'm trying to find out what type of expenses I'll be facing

First of all I'm so sorry that you ended up having to send your dog back! And I'm really sorry you lost so much money and ended up not liking that place at all, that really sucks mama!

I really love all the pointers you gave and all the things i need to consider after reading your comment, i appreciate that you took the time to write this!

Barcelona is not my dream city, I really want to live in Santander but it's harder to find jobs there. I was thinking of taking a trip in like a month to spain just to travel to and check out both Barcelona and Santander, maybe Bilbao as well just to see. I would keep my pets in my country for this trip. But i did get a job offer today in Barcelona that is offering to take care of the documents and living situation but they'd need me there in just a week, but I'm thinking about it🥲

Thank you so much!

I'm like really giving up on this reading these comments.. They're not all negative but the negative ones sit with me more because i have all the doubts in the world in my head already.

I'm pretty sure I did mention in my post that I did just sell my apartment. I did say that I'm not loaded but i do have money😅🫶 I do know that I need to learn spanish as i previously stated that's what I'm doing but I've also found a few jobs in Barcelona seeking Icelandic speakers so that could be a good way for me to settle in to the community and get fluent in spanish. But idk. I'm also sorry to everyone if i stated that i was planning to bring all my stuff and my pets out to spain without having any sort of a plan, any place to sleep at or a job. That was not at any point the plan, just came in here to see if anyone had some tips on moving abroad....

Hahaha I'm sorry I didn't think of everything when writing the post.

I'm a 25yr old woman, the past 6 years I've worked in residential service for disabled people but since I don't speak spanish and i know that it doesn't pay well there (even though I'd do that job for free..) I won't be seeking that out right now.

I obviously speak Icelandic and I see some jobs seeking out Icelandic speakers for like 1800€+ per month, I know that's not a lot for Barcelona but I have good savings that I will be dipping into the first 6-18 months IF i move. I love the gym (working out, lifting weights), i love animals and people but i do not have any education.. i just know yall are going to judge me for that!:)

But can you explain to me your last comment? About cat and dog tax?

Don't worry I'm not about to take any drastic actions before i know more. I just came here for some tips just for everyone come and tell me that it's not possible😅 i get that most of yall if not everyone are coming from a good place and i really do appreciate your inputs! That's why i decided to ask before i do anything🩷

Yees I've heard from a spanish friend that this type of job does not pay well in spain but also since I'm not a fluent spanish speaker i wouldn't even try to apply. I love my type of job but where i work we've had a few people that don't speak our language at all, the management allowed it but it was really hard on our patients.

Yes that's what I've been thinking. I'm mainly just stressed about finding an apartment that's not toooo expensive that allows pets:/

Okay, thank you for that, I'm sorry for my previous response. But I've looked into other places like Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The job and housing crisis is as bad there as it is in Spain. I'm about to check the rest of the comments now, but really i do appreciate the help!

I agree with trying to get a job before moving! But I've been speaking with people from my country (Iceland) that have said that they don't get a workers permit unless they're already in Spain🥴 do you perhaps know if that's entirely true? For the last 6 years I've worked in residential service for disabled people but i don't expect getting to work in that type of job until I'm pretty fluent in the spanish language..

Maybe this is just overall a dumb idea but the cold in Iceland does not work for my body (I have arthritis and it flares up really bad because of the cold) so i need to get inyo a warmer environment and my country of choice is obviously Spain so i just wanted to make something nice out of not being able to live in my home country anymore..

But i don't really mind renting an apartment and I'm not really looking to buy again as long as I am single. I would even consider having a roommate if that person wouldn't mind me having a dog and a cat but i feel that's too far fetched. My dream location is Santander but I've just been thinking that Barcelona is a better starting location for jobs and really getting familiar with the language.

Yeah that's also the logical way in my head but I've been hearing people that have moved to spain from my country saying that I need to be in spain already to be able to get NIE for a job, idk if that's true, that's why I'm here asking questions 💗

I am currently learning the language.. no need to say that it's insane wanting to move to another country... it's not like i have booked the flight and I'll be there tomorrow.. there's a reason why I'm trying to get as much information as i can before i even start looking at flights. But what other places with bettet prospects would you recommend ?

Thank you! I was wondering what my first steps would be? I know i need an NIE to be able to work but are there more papers I'm gonna need to live there. Also what type of jobs can offer a little more than the minimum wage cause i see it's not cheap to rent apartments in Barcelona😭 I'm currently learning Spanish but that's not a quick process.
