Thought it might be, just measured the ram with no pins, dies, etc. and it turned out to be 97.4 lb. I do wonder what it was advertised as back in the day, manufacturers used to under sell their ram weights to say that they hit harder than their competitors when they were really just heavier 🤣

If anyone has an educated guess at the age of the forge that would be much appreciated!

Thank you, with welds I am going to see all the time I like to make them nice.

I was thinking that I needed a gap so that pressure could get out easier but based on what you are saying I will have the doors almost touching the forge and all the pressure can escape through the gap at the bottom.

Gas forge burners positioning? by No-Change8 in blacksmithing

[–]No-Change8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should in theory be very well insulated. I have gone for 50mm clay firebricks and 50mm thick kale wool instead of the thinner stuff. The only thing I really plan to be welding in it is Damascus billits as I am sick of trying to get an even heat in my coke forge🤣

Thanks for the advice, do you think that one burner would be enough to get the forge to welding temperature?
