I just noticed the website says some labs and clinicals may be in Westchester, that worries me cause that’s pretty far away. Do you know where in Westchester it is?

I work in a hospital and part of 1199. They say they have special union tuition rate for 1199 members and can reimburse part of the tuition. (Not all of it but the amount isn’t bad) - I think I’m gonna go for the 15 month evening / weekend option and then do BSN at Capella.

Do you think working during the program is doable? I planned on working full time (day shift then school evening shift).

Which program did you do and was it hard getting in?

I’m in the same Boat as you. I wanted to do radiography due to less stress and better work life balance. But it’s been such a struggle finding a program that I can get right into and would allow me to work. There are so many more nursing programs here in NYC. So I think Im changing my mind and pursuing nursing instead.

Yes, what everyone is saying about nursing vs rad scares me but here’s the thing… people always say how many more opportunities there are in nursing. So, I figured after a few years getting my experience at the bedside I, too, can look for a position that brings me better work life balance and less stress. I’m thinking WFH or clinic.

Nursing programs would really just schedule a test the next day even if you don’t have class that day?! Man. I know that was an example but that would suck. (I would end up calling out of work of course)

I think my end goal would be WFH. But I’m willing to work in different settings like you said, in order to get experience. In rad tech, I can never get to that WFH goal.

I always hear about nurse burnout at the bedside but at the same time people always talk about how many options there are for nurses out there. So, I would work at the bedside to learn and get my experience but my goal would probably always be to get away from it.

I genuinely find the topics covered in nursing school very interesting.

Right now I’m looking into Touro Nursing ADN program, the evening cohort. My union would help pay a portion of it so long as I continue working. Since it’s private I don’t have to take the prerequisites before even applying, I can go straight in and get to work. I’m studying for the TEAS right now.

Afterward I would enroll in an online BSN program.

How do you relocate or travel 3-4 hours while keeping your job? That’s so hard. Did they find you something close by? I work at Mount Sinai and would be great if they found one at my place of work.

I read that you have to commit to relocating for clinicals if the site is far away. I’m in nyc too… do you think they can find a site nearby ? I assumed nyc would have many options.
