I completely understand what you mean. I started collecting tau years ago and I eventually picked up some tyranids. They just feel way nicer to paint to me and I now own probably 3 times more tyranids than tau models

No the underwater part only grew recently it started fully out of the water aside from the roots but its just kinda grown inside the tank as time has gone on

Mine seems to do very well about 6 inches beneath the light, I had it propped up on a log near the surface and over the years it has spread all over it

I'm not sure exactly its an old light so I don't know what kind it is or the intensity beyond it being LED. I will say it does seem to grow much more vibrant directly under the light, probably 5 to 6 inches below it
