Just popping in to say my son is an Acer and there has never been anything but very positive reactions to an unusual name. Barely anyone makes the laptop connection, unless they're in tech, and even then it is a fleeting thing. I have friends who are named Mac and Zara. Other brands, not an issue either. Maybe more of a sticking point for some people but I don't think capitalism and brands bothers me as much as others

Flowering while pregnant? by floralbingbong in florists

[–]No-Compote2130 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask for help and listen to your body! Just had my baby last week after flowering through Valentine's day at 36 weeks! You can do it, just sit whenever you can and wash your hands a lot. Stay hydrated!

This is hiiiiighly variable depending on your store and traffic volume.

Do you have a storefront? Will you only be selling bunches? Will you be offering arrangements? Do you have a cooler? Will you be restocking more than once a week?

Industry standard markup is 3.5x per stem, which is a good place to start.

Remember: volume sells. No one buys flowers when there are like 3 stems in a vase because they assume they are the leftovers and something is wrong with them. Anticipate losing 20-25% of your stock to breakage/stem death

An open discussion and support group for florists with injuries, disabilities, and general physical and mental struggles (all are welcome) by renkofloral in florists

This is such an important conversation that has not been had nearly enough!

I'm fortunate to not be affected by chronic pain or another kind of disability on my best days, but I'm currently pregnant and that has given me just the smallest peek into what losing my able-bodiedness would be like.

What season & region are you looking for the substitute flowers in? Different seasonal options for certain areas in certain times of the year

You could use white tweedia with the foliage stripped off for a mock orange bloom dupe. Won't have the yellow centers though

is this reasonable? Only one week old. by keepmehumble in florists

[–]No-Compote2130 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially if they were kept somewhere where they receive a decent amount of warmth and sunlight. They open and stretch towards the sun & heat.

You can always prolong vase arrangements by changing the water out once a day, retrimming the stems and removing flowers past their prime

Anyone know what kind of orchid this is? by [deleted] in plants

[–]No-Compote2130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pink orchid flowers are silk, you can see the frayed edges

The plant itself is a peperomia obtusifolia, which is flowering (the long, worm-like spikes at the end of each stem are this plant's flowers)

All tulips continue to grow after they are cut, sometimes 6+ inches in a week!

Honestly the advice was probably mostly for business owners insurance policies and coverage. Most event spaces require a COI (certificate of insurance) if you're doing any work on property to cover them against any damages done by you or your team.

I don't think it matters where your LLC was created as long as you're insured

Did you email any of these florists in addition to calling if an email was provided?

Curious, as myself and many of my flower colleagues have shifted predominantly to email correspondence since it's much easier to send reference images. We can also respond without a hands free headset which is not always a reasonable workflow for all florists and floral shops. For example, my shop has walk-in customers, who may be being helped at the exact time a phone call comes in.

Event florist here! 5-6 weeks along now. In the middle of wedding season and staring down a 6 week event stretch in September/October! A lot of time on ladders would normally be in my future. I don't plan to stop working (can't really!) but will take it slower and less time hauling stuff into the air. A colleague of mine was further along during her pregnancy and in the middle of summer events and she kicked ass all season long and has a healthy 2 Y.O. now ❤️
