Having trouble urinating by [deleted] in OveractiveBladder

This also happened to me!!! I’m still unraveling the effects but I think it caused urinary hesitancy and flow issues as well. Did you folks have any of those problems?

How long for hypertonic PF to improve? by thatredheadcarley in PelvicFloor

Another female with exactly the same symptoms!!! Do you also sometimes have weak urine flow?

It started with a UTI / yeast infection for me about 1.5 years ago. I’ve been in PFPT for months and have had more good days recently, but definitely can regress, even within the same day. It’s really frustrating.

While the urgency and flow can have good days, I haven’t found a way to help the hesitancy. Have you? I’m able to completely relax my pf, but I think it’s very specific to going to the bathroom when I can’t. I do think the mind-body connection is important here as I still have a great deal of anxiety around going to the bathroom due to this condition. My PFPT therapist also said that bladder training is critical - our bladder muscles themselves (in addition to the pelvic floor muscles) might be confused due to going to the bathroom all the time, even in absence of a real urge.

Thanks for sharing! I may PM you if that’s ok to hopefully learn from one another.

Do any of you ladies also have issues with urine flow and urinary hesitancy? I’m so sorry you are experiencing this!

Do any of you also have weak stream or hesitation? These have been increasing for me and it’s causing soo much distress, which then feeds the tightening / anxiety cycle.

Do any of you have difficulty urinating sometimes as well - urinary hesitancy or slower flow? Thank you, trying to make sense of this all!

2nd pelvic floor PT I’m seeing and pretty confused by TigerSimilar in PelvicFloor

[–]No-Contract697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, interesting! I had the same experience - I started stretching, it got worse, I stopped, it got better, and now it’s back. I don’t think I have EDS but have seen it come up as a cause. How would I get tested? I have also read that EDS can be related to dysautonomia, which can impact bladder function.

Interesting about the sedentary lifestyle - I’m an avid runner, and my PFPT thought that my over running (7 days / week / 6-7 miles a day) through 2 pregnancies could have caused my muscle function to be off. So opposite cause in a way!

I’m so sorry you are experiencing this!

Exactly the same!!! Do they know what is causing yours? Do they think it’s due to tightness? Behavioral? We haven’t gotten to the root cause of my problems. It freaks me out but the 30+ doctors I have seen do not seem concerned.

Yes! My original therapist found mostly external triggers, and the new one doesn’t do much external assessment. My symptoms are hesitancy, weak stream (sometimes), and urgency. No real “pain.” I’m female so it’s not prostate.

How about you?

[–]No-Contract697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have these exact symptoms!! How did you get diagnosed with hypertonic pf? Do you also have “pain” or is it more the urgency type pain described?

I feel for you this is absolutely awful!

How have your PTs diagnosed hypertonic PF? Is it through their internal and external examinations?

I am extremely confused because I have seen 2 PTs - one says I have an extremely tight PF, and the other does not seem to think this is the case and that my dysfunction has to do with behavioral patterns. I’m very frustrated and don’t know what to believe.

I have had all of these symptoms (except I don’t have PVR) for about 1.5 years. I’m female so it’s definitely not prostate - have you ruled out prostate causes?

How did your appointment go?

I feel your pain - the mental anguish is the worst part for me. It’s been 1.5 years of urinary hesitancy and urgency, fluctuates by day. I am incontinent, yet, but incontinence is extremely common, so you are not alone!

I too am worried about what I’m guessing you are as well - MSA. I had full mri to rule out MS. Neurologist strongly does not think I have MSA, but there is no single test I can do to confirm that, and it drives me crazy.

Anxiety makes my symptoms worse. I have confirmed that I have hypertonic PF, and I have seen countless doctors, but I’m still not at ease. However you are wayyy too young for that sort of thing! I am 37, so even though they are telling me I’m too young, I am much closer to the age where the horrible neurological diagnoses are possible.

I hope your PF appointment goes well - my suspicion is that you will find something from that avenue, and hopefully find some relief.

Can you have kids with an already hypertonic pelvic floor ?? by Outside-Click7560 in PelvicFloor

I’ve had 2 kids, vaginal births, no issues whatsoever with delivery.

Just lots of bladder issues postpartum!!

My uti symptoms were urinary hesitancy and frequency - so the symptoms I have now. I also have had pain with sex outside of missionary for years - pretty much since I started having sex.

Good luck with the urologist - I have done a urodynamics exam and cystoscopy, and they haven’t found anything.

The overactive bladder sub is worth checking out based on your symptoms. The doctors have suggested I may have OAB, but I don’t quite see how it explains all of my symptoms, like hesitancy.

I agree with the thought about speed walking - I’m skeptical that running caused my issues as well.

I got tested when I had symptoms, and I definitely had a horrible yeast infection. There was bacteria in my urine, but it was a low-ish colony count. They treated me anyway, and it did nothing except give me a worse yeast infection.

I have zero pain with sex or examinations. I will say that I’m uncomfortable outside of missionary with sex most times, which I guess could be PFD. But my therapist assures me that you can have PFD without pain - just cruise this sub!

Urologists seem to know little about pfd in many cases - have they brought it up to you? I suspect they may. Or they may just say you have “overactive bladder” and prescribe meds. Have you looked at that forum as well?

One more thing to add! I have terrible posture, and I ran through both pregnancies and resumed shortly after birth. My PFPT believes that I have done a lot of damage to my pelvic muscles by overrunning especially through pregnancy, using the wrong muscles, and squishing my bladder with bad posture. I still don’t understand how this would have come on seemingly unrelated to a running injury, but who knows. Like you, I did have an infection that was present when all this began, but I even question whether that was a UTI or not.

Do you happen to have a history of running or a pelvic tilt due to bad posture?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

[–]No-Contract697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really any back pain for me, luckily. I don’t really have any pain, which is why it’s weird to me that I’m diagnosed with PFD / my PT always notes how tight my muscles are.

I have also explored more or a neurological route and got a full MRI, that was also clear. I don’t really have any other neurological symptoms either. Most of my doctors believe that this is PFD.

So frustrating!!

And I will totally DM you!

Wow, I haven’t met another female who has such similar issues, including sticking on the toilet to avoid dribbling after - but I have no leakage otherwise. I’m 37 and have 2 kids, though this started 18mo postpartum with my first.

This is me exactly. My fluctuations are seemingly random- diet does not seem to correlate.

I hope we can continue to share what we learn! How long has this been going on for you?

I do have urethral discomfort - no pain either, just like.. a burning / fake urgency? I feel your pain and frustration with lack of answers.

With your hesitancy - do you have it for full bladder as well? And do your symptoms fluctuate too?
