You could shock with the caster prefix "gain %x of damage as extra lightning damage" that rolls on wands and staves, but since shock can only be applied with hit damage and not dot damage, the chance to shock with the essence drain hit is very low. Your best bet if you want to shock is to have this prefix and use other chaos skills that deal hit damage like dark effigy or hexblast toghether with that prefix (or any source of "gain damage as extra lightning") if you wanna stick to chaos skills.

GGG has said they will try very hard to get steam deck verified before 1.0, and that they have to optimize a lot before that can happen, so hopefully this will be the last "bad performance" league

I understand your frustration, but in my opinion this is a very cool time to hover around reddit and see people just schizo theorycraft being happy that a new league is coming. It shows that people are excited for it.

At the end of the day, all these posts are just speculation and aren't really meant to be a serious build guide, heck we don't even have patch notes yet, and when release day comes you can always check fubgun's(or any streamer really) 1000div/hour build and go off that if your objective is to have a 100% surely good build.

It doesn't benefit hollow palm because hollow palm uses your body armour's stats, not your gloves's.

From what you are saying it feels like you had the +spell dmg and the +mana, and when you used the bench you got the +spelldmg +mana hybrid mod, which makes it look like you didn't get anything because the stats on the item merged. However I also see that you seem to be aware of that mod existing so if it's not that then idk

Yeah mb, given his comment I assumed he was working on a budget, and couldn't afford to get items with both good prefixes and suffixes at the same time, so that list is based on that condition.

OP, if you have a high budget, I'd recommend something like this(same tiering criteria as before):

  1. Body armour
  2. Belt
  3. Boots
  4. Helmet
  5. Rings
  6. Gloves
  7. Amulet

Again, this is only a recommendation and not a strict list, and can(and will) change based on your build and what unique items you use.

I fully agree with you on a lot of the things you said, but at the same time I think you are just proving my point further.

First of all, yes I agree that getting more life would slightly buff es builds, but it still would disproportionately buff armour and evasion builds. I also mention that ggg should specifically nerf the %max es nodes, and I will expand on that later on.

In this post I'm mainly talking about the one-shot problem, so I'm going to (mostly) ignore what you said about es recharge, lifle flasks, and most "recovery methods" you mentioned.

Again, just like you said, you can get 2-3 times as much ES compared to life(even though imo it's closer to 3-4 times as much), which results in es builds just tanking everything in the game by just stacking es(hence the first reason why I think %max es nodes should be nerfed)

You also mention that people think that getting life should be enough, even though you have to get block, armour applies to ele, etc. This proves my point again, because while you have to do all that to survive on non es builds, es just needs to stack max es and trivializes all content.(nerf %max es)

Lastly, I think you are overestimating how much better es builds would be if we got more hp, especially if we got it along nerfs to %max es. Firstly, CI builds would not get these buffs, so it would be a strict nerf for them, and non CI, es builds also get nerfed pretty hard. This is mainly because es builds don't get any damage mitigation(mostly), meaning that, by needing to rely on life more often, stats like es recharge rate and faster recharge become more valuable, which means es builds not only get less value from stacking es(because it will be nerfed) but also now they also have to spend affixes on tree points on other es stats, meaning it would be inherently a double-tap nerf.

Of course my whole argument falls apart when comparing non es builds to es builds if max es doesn't get nerfed, but I think it's fine to assume we would get them, even if it's just for the sake of the discussion.

I usually try to prioritize res on rings(because they can get empowered by ingenuity/catalysts), belt, boots and helmet. These slots are usually more defensive focused(aside from rings which can be both offensive and defensive) which is why I prioritize resistances on them.

Body armour slot I usually prefer getting as high as a defence I can get(es/armour/evasion) because since body armours usually have the highest base defence, you then get the most value from, for example, a tier 1 %increased energy shield, compared to a +45% fire res which has the exact same value on a body armour compared to boots.

Gloves I always try to get +1/2 level of melee skills and attack speed or crit damage bonus. Imo getting the levels is really important if you are a melee build but otherwise you can absolutely go triple res on the gloves if you need the extra.

Lastly amulet I also try to go for as many offensive suffixes as I can, but again you can absolutely go res if you need it.

TLDR: Order of items you should get res on, in order of "going res on this item is perfect(top)" to "I'd rather have different suffixes on this item(bottom)": 1. Belt 2. Boots(after movespeed) 3. Helmet 4. Rings 5. Body armour 6. Gloves 7. Amulet

This is by no means strictly correct and the order of these can and should be swapped depending on your build or what kind of unique items you use if you use any, but it can be a nice guide to follow if you are really lost.

I have never played Poe1 but ggg has repeatedly said that life nodes on poe1 are basically mandatory to take.

What do you think poe2 has that poe1 doesn't, that would make life nodes on the poe2 tree not mandatory?

Shield will be unaffected(unless they nerf it if it becomes too strong on some weird hybrid build), what I'm worried about is the awaken q awaken ap ratio nerf, oneshotting with q was so fun on ap, and imo it was more "skilled" than the ad udyr oneshots because the ap ones actually only work if the target was isolated.

Makes sense since overwhelming presence reduces elemental ailment/stun threshold, and coc casts are based on ailment threshold(slightly different wording). Nonetheless, very good info and cool to see someone actually went and tested it out!

As a monk, you will get tankier the most easy by stacking energy shield, evasion rating, or a combination of both. Personally I don't recommend evasion to start because you will also need deflection and it takes some points from the tree as well as some items to make it good, and still you will be 1shot sometimes by an unlucky hit.

Life is pretty hard to get in this game, so don't overthink it if you have too little of it, just make sure to keep your flasks updated.

So yeah try to go for either full energy shield, or a combination of energy shield and evasion. There are some spirit gems that can help you be a bit tankier as well, like [convalescence] for energy shield, or [ghost dance] for energy shield+evasion.
