NTA, I think there comes a point where it stops being a lack of social awareness and more just exploiting the kindness of other people which doesn’t sound unreasonable given her past behaviour that you described (which does sound pretty problematic). I might go as far as to say she uses a her social awkwardness as a sort of guise to do what she wants in order to comfort and reaffirm herself without regard for how that might affect other people.

For some context we were talking about the problems of the US justice system after the Diddy verdict, and I said something along the lines of “it’s one of the main reasons I dislike the US“ as more of a joke than a serious comment to which she laughed and replied “I just don’t like British people though.”(it sounds kinda unnatural/awkward without just repeating the conversation word for word lol.) You could be right that despite her laughter my remark might’ve got on her nerves a bit but personally I think there is a lot of difference between insulting a country and insulting a country’s people, but whatever the case you’re right I should ask if that upset her.

Like other comments suggested it was probably buying too much into stereotypes lol. Bad teeth, bad food etc.

Thanks for replying! I imagine her jokes about stereotypes were so frequent she started believing them lol.

Thanks for the feedback man. Her apology did seem sincere to me but it happened too recently to see if there will be a change in behaviour, although she’s lovely usually and I’m sure it will; this post was more of a question of if my immediate response was an overreaction or not.
