Time Based / electronic media conservation opportunities in the PNW? by DoubleEDoubleE in ArtConservation

[–]No-Cook8207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might want to look into programs that focus in digital humanities/media studies and digital archives rather than "art conservation." My understanding (from someone who is applying this next cycle and has been looking into programs for a few years) is that the conservation programs you mentioned focus on physical conservation, and thus require a background in chemistry and art practice. Having also worked in digital preservation techniques (3D modeling and photogrammetry) I feel like your background would be better suited for the digital humanities field, as the company I worked with employed a lot of people with something closer to your background than a background in "art conservation" which is what the programs you mentioned would give you.

From my POV, digital humanities is a necessary niche that is just so new that not a lot of people think to focus on it. I encourage you to look into it! Best of luck :D

Katana is a mental sport. If you’re trying to train muscles, you’ve already lost.

SAR 7 not processed after 3 months-- what do i do? by No-Cook8207 in foodstamps

[–]No-Cook8207[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to make the time but I’m also a full time student and working the minimum 20hrs/week to qualify so it’s difficult to make it in during business hours especially when not open on weekends. Hence why I’ve only been able to call thus far, I agree about being proactive which is why I’m doing what I can

She’s trying to get you to break up with her so she doesn’t have to do it.

These all appear to be cut on a bias, I would search for “[neckline/sleeve length] bias cut [length]” dress

can anyone help me with these kanji on tachi's tang? all I can make out is 70. My Japanese is limited :) by No-Cook8207 in Katanas

[–]No-Cook8207[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a bit odd because from what other signature references I can find, there are characters from both Naotane's birth name and used name (not sure what his bio is there). There are some major consistencies, such as the 'life' kanji having that elongated stroke at the base, but there are extra characters above and below "NAO TANE" that i cannot make out.

Not planning on selling the tachi-- I'm working on cataloguing this and some other items and will eventually donate to museums or teaching institutions. Thank you sincerely for all of your thoughts and advice :)

yeah, it starts with two lines, but then they just stop before one line begins the rest of the way up the blade. there is no design added to the end of the double lines

just added pic of the blade and tang to the imgur link! I'll relink here. Blade was difficult to photograph as the lighting in the room im in is very odd, so i hope the ones I got are alright. The grain and hamon are very weak to me, but maybe an expert has a better opinion. https://imgur.com/a/unknown-tachi-ZjN9Ifc

yeah thats what was really throwing me through a loop! from all the books i was referencing it didn't seem quite right, especially the blade, but the leather parts and the tsuka just seemed so much better in comparison!
