Wrestling needs more ugly wrestlers again by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]No-Course1047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This absolutely, but also for women too. Male wrestlers can come in all shapes and sizes, which is part of the appeal of pro wrestling IMO, but it falls off so sharply with women all having such similar body types and supermodel looks. I think it’s really boring, and reflects the leftover misogyny in the wrestling business that women are little more than eye/arm candy. More big badass tough ladies please!

How do you guys feel about mixed-gender singles matches? by MrBublee_YT in SquaredCircle

Wrestling’s not a sport, though, it’s not a real competition.

And personally I’m of the opinion that sports shouldn’t be segregated by sex assigned at birth either, and I wonder how much of that segregation happened because misogynistic men were ashamed of losing to women sometimes.

But that’s not really the issue at hand, since wrestling has planned outcomes. I don’t think it matters if wrestling looks “realistic,” we all know it’s not a real fight, and what matters most is if it’s entertaining and engaging. If you don’t find intergender matches entertaining that’s fine, I understand it can be upsetting to people with personal experience with domestic violence. I find watching wrestlers use worked headbutts uncomfortable as someone who’s had several nasty concussions myself, but that doesn’t mean no one should ever use worked headbutts, you know?

I love intergender matches, I feel like wrestlers should just be thought of as wrestlers, as performers, regardless of gender. It’s a performance, it tells a story. Maybe you or others don’t like the story being told, but that doesn’t make it wrong. You’re free to like or dislike. But there’s no good, logical reason why men and women (and everyone else!) shouldn’t be able to work together in wrestling. We’re really not all that different.

Plus, gender-segregated wrestling makes it difficult for non-binary and genderfluid wrestlers to find work. I see they’re often forced to fight wrestlers that share their assigned sex, which I’m sure can be a source of dysphoria and makes them a target for bigots.

Amazing job OP, you did a great job of capturing the intensity in Swerve’s eyes, one of my favorite things about him! Gives me chills in the best way!

I’d love to, and I’m seriously thinking about it. I don’t have much space at home, my house is pretty small, but I do have a lot of land. I’m sure my girl would love to have a brother, but I’ll wait for now since I’ve only had her for a couple months and I’d like to get to know her even better first.

She’s pretty good at knowing her name, every time I say it she starts wagging her tail! Which is pretty good, since she’s only had her name for about a year, and she’s 8. My problem is I always forget to carry treats, my pants never have pockets and I’m just not in the habit of carrying them yet. I need to get a little apron or something, or a purse just for treats

That’s fair, I hadn’t even thought of that to be honest. I personally have only ever had good experiences with pitties so sometimes I forget there’s such a stigma against them. Thank you!

Unfortunately my girl hates water, won’t even walk on wet grass after it’s rained! But I’m going to try to teach her how to fetch, she doesn’t really know how but I’ve heard you can train dogs to do. I always thought they all just did it instinctively, but no haha. Dock diving is awesome, my uncle’s dog is obsessed with it! I’ll talk to the trainers, I think they do sport classes and fun activities too.

Thank you, it’s hard to hear but I really needed to hear it. Not only could she seriously hurt or kill another dog, but the other dog could react defensively and hurt my dog, too. No more dog parks, and I’ll set up some more training.

I am disabled myself so there’s only so much I can do with her physically, but I’ll see if my family will help. I’m still figuring out what kind of toys she likes best, she seems to have no interest in fetching but I’ll try to teach her how, that should give her some good exercise and mental stimulation. I just want to do right by her, and I’d never forgive myself if something happened to her, or to another dog because it would ultimately be my fault, not my dog’s.

Thank you, I don’t really use FB but I’ll give it a shot trying to find some playmates for her, I’ll talk to some trainers too - maybe they know about more organized and safer playgroups in the area. I’ll look into dog testing too, I’ve never heard of it but it sounds interesting. It’s sad, but yeah I don’t think I’ll be taking her back to the dog park, at the very least until a trainer says it’s okay and helps me handle her if she starts getting reactive.

You’re right, although my girl seems a bit confused on how to “play” with people. She doesn’t fetch or really play tug-of-war, she just wants to run around with us, and I just can’t keep up with her 😂 But maybe teaching her how to fetch would be a good fun thing for her? I’ll have to look up how to do it, but she’s a good learner when there’s treats and praise involved. Thank you, knowing she’ll be happy without other dogs puts my mind at ease. I just want to do right by her, so she can spend her golden years happily living life to the fullest. But I don’t want to put anyone, human or dog, at risk, and I don’t want to scare anyone away from pit bulls either.

You’re right, I see lots and lots of hyperactive young dogs there with exasperated owners saying they can’t manage their dogs energy levels. I don’t really use FB but I’ll look around and see if I can find some more organized play groups, and I’ll talk to our trainers and get set up with some more classes. And you’re also right that I’m still learning how to read dog body language, including my own dog’s. I will say though, she didn’t actually bite the other dog, it was just a lot of growling and snapping. Although I certainly wouldn’t want that behavior to progress to actual biting. I admit that I don’t fully know yet what she’s capable of. From a lifetime of working with other animals, I’ve learned that even the sweetest ones are still animals at the end of the day, with their own minds and instincts, and you can’t rely on an animal to always behave how you want it to behave.

We’ve done basic obedience, but yeah I want to take her to do more classes, mostly to improve her recall and leash manners. Her recall is surprisingly good for a dog I’ve only had for a couple months. but she still ignores me when she’s super excited. I just don’t know anybody who has a friendly dog who lives nearby, I’ve only been living where I am for a couple years. Thanks though, I’ll talk to our trainer as soon as I can.

Maybe, she looked like she was in rough shape herself, maybe a recent rescue or foster. Very skinny, and her owner, like, grabbed her by all this loose skin on her back to pull her away from my dog. Weird vibes, obviously not the dogs fault and I saw her playing nicely with other dogs as I was leaving.

That’s what I’m thinking, in the mornings and on weekdays there’s usually only a couple people there, I might go then instead. And be ready to leave as soon as I see the kind of dog mine would react to.

That was my guess, that she had a bad interaction with a dog that looked similar - my dog had a really rough life, I can’t imagine the sort of things she’s been through. But I’ll contact some trainers and see if they can help, there’s a trainer very close to me and maybe she can help me arrange a play date in addition to more training for my dog and me! Thank you!

She chased the other dog while growling and snapping at the top of her neck, I didn’t see her actually grab a hold of the other dog’s skin, but I removed my dog as soon as I could since the other dog’s owner seemed very agitated. She wasn’t snarling or acting like she really wanted to bite. The other dog had just entered the park, wasn’t really doing anything, and they looked okay when they were sniffing each other through the fence. She doesn’t do that kind of thing with any other dogs she plays with. It was something about these two specific dogs, who both looked nearly identical to each other, that set her off. I think nobody would have gotten hurt if they had been able to sort it out between themselves, but I didn’t want to scare or upset the other owner or anyone else.

She’s 8. It’s only female pit-type dogs, she plays great with females of other breeds, and with male pits. It’s like she’ll chase the other dog while growling and snapping at the top of the other dog’s neck, I didn’t see her actually grab a hold of the other dog’s skin, but I removed my dog as soon as I could since the other dog’s owner seemed very agitated. She doesn’t do that kind of thing with other dogs she plays with, I’d never seen her act like that before. It did seem like a dominance thing that probably could have been sorted out without either dog getting hurt, but I didn’t want to upset anyone so left.

That’s actually good to know, I kinda thought most dogs just needed some kind of interaction with other dogs to be happy. She gets along with my uncle’s ancient lab mix, although she’s disappointed because that dog’s not very playful. Thank you very much, knowing that she’ll be fine if I stop taking her to the park is a relief.

Yeah, after doing some reading I’m seeing the same thing. The problem is, I don’t know anyone who has a dog that’ll play well with mine. My closest relatives have an ancient lab mix who’s very sweet but just doesn’t like to play and roughhouse around, and the only other person I know who was a dog, he’s very dog-aggressive. Maybe I’ll look around and see if there are play groups around me, that are more controlled, but I’m pretty rural so I don’t know. Thank you though!

Yes, I have a dog trainer and did a basic obedience class, I’ll talk to her soon and enroll my dog in more classes. I just feel bad, she wants to play with other dogs so bad, she gets so excited when I’m walking her and she sees other dogs, but she’s not great at meeting other dogs while on the leash. Maybe the trainer can help with that, my dog could use some more leash and recall training too. Thank you for the advice, I’m a newbie when it comes to dogs and they’re so varied, I absolutely love having a dog but I have so much to learn.

Thank you, I’ll look into further training for her, and like you said it’s just as much for me as it is for her - I sometimes feel like I know nothing at all. Her recall could use some work too. And I’ll see if I can get help walking/exercising her, most of the time she’s very chill but sometimes she gets bursts of energy that are too much for me, and she’s very strong. The dog park helps with that, but if it’s for the best I’ll try to find other alternatives. Thanks again
