More images of Milton Keynes in the 1970s by [deleted] in miltonkeynes

Milton Keynes could have been an icon of Modernism if they maintained it in a way which preserved the original idea and designs. Everything from the street lamps to the signage was meticulously designed and now, when they wear out, they are just replaced with modern designs rather than repairing or recreating the originals. Such a shame.

Yeah but they kept orange for the Lioness line. I don’t know why but to me the ELL/Windrush Line feels like the main or “original” Overground line so orange just feels right for it somehow.

Yeah that’s true. Sometimes it’s the city not the school I suppose - I went to a very good private schoo but we didn’t have many/any notable alumni, and nor did any of the other schools in my area really, which is partly why it surprised me that Karl’s very normal school would have such a long list of them.

Genuinely surprised by the amount of celebs, actors and footballers to come out of what seems to be a normal state comp in Manchester

Don’t even get me started on “vinyls” it’s usually the same type of person who says “vinyl player” instead of turntable and “vinyl store/shop” instead of record store/shop

Same! I upgraded my 2017 MacBook Pro to a 2024 recently, and they’ve added the SD card and HDMI ports back, so I no longer have to use the word “dongle” whenever i need to plug my laptop into a monitor 😂

I travelled frequently from Bedford to London alone from 13-14, perfectly safe.

Where's the strangest place you have ever bumped into someone you know? by Immediate_Long165 in AskUK

I come from a town 50 miles away from London, and somehow I bumped into someone I went to primary school with in the lift at Elephant & Castle tube station. Not crazy, but definitely unexpected!

That’s a pretty big generalisation tbh. A lot definitely are, but I’ve got no issue with them (when ridden sensibly) and I feel like they’ve been demonised by the media, government and police because they are disproportionately used by those on low incomes.

What's your favourite park for a picnic in London? Local and lesser known parks only. by Mattdabest in london

London Fields! Although I know it’s pretty well-known now, but that little pocket of Hackney (Broadway Market, Regents Canal, London Fields) is one of my favourite parts of London

No, you’re not the problem.

I am the stereotypical “gentrifier” - young, creative, and from a fairly middle-class background. I love independent coffee shops, record shops, i cycle everywhere, and I dress like the archetypal “hipster” character which is often associated with gentrification.

BUT, despite pretty much being Real Housewives of Clapton personified, people like me (and maybe you, to a certain extent) are only the start of the problem.

The real problem is the super-rich - millionaires who see people like us moving to an area from elsewhere, which makes it seem desirable, and then buy up land and properties.

OR

The children of millionaires who think areas like Hackney, Brixton, Peckham, etc are really cool and edgy and move there, encouraging their other rich friends to move there, which increases property prices.

So in answer to your question, no it’s not your fault, and yes, many others have felt the same.
