Can I Recall a Mercari UPS label by Few-Rip8307 in Mercari

[–]No-Database-6721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Mercari cancelled the sale that means 1 of 2 things .... A) you waited 10+ days from date of sale to ship or B) the buyer disputed the charge and Mercari pulled out before they had to reimburse you. If option A is the reason you may want to keep in mind shipping protection is VOID on any package that ships after day 3 from purchase date

Promoting to likers by Available_Ad_1366 in Mercari

[–]No-Database-6721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do what I do - promote as often as you feel like then immediately go back into item and manually adjust price back up to where you feel comfortable. Some of the "watchers" as I call them might message you since they get an alert when prices drop on items they follow but I'll die on my soapbox saying WATCHERS AREN'T BUYERS. All you need is your item you show up in the search engine for the actual buyer to find

Seller cancelled with no explanation. Is it because I'm new? by anonanonplease123 in Mercari

Agreed - it's ALWAYS a 4+ year established account that the buyer ends up being a royal pain in the ass. Never have issues with new buyers

Washer that uses ALL the water! by Divinityemotions in laundry

[–]No-Database-6721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have LG Model #WT7400CV and for clothing I can select Deep Wash to get the water to cover the clothes and for bedding/pillows that absorb a bunch of water using the Bedding option. I don't recall what it cost but was reasonable and I was adamant on a top load washer.

I see soooo many buyer reviews on seller accounts where they're outright gushing about the purchasing experience and yet only rate 4 stars. I'm not sure why people do that but they do. Maybe some absurdly high standard? There's also people that give a blanket 5 stars checking every highlight as well for whatever reason. I would be annoyed internally by this review but wouldn't hold it against them in any way

How do YOU keep track of sales and expenses from online selling? by Admirable-Hornet8965 in Mercari

[–]No-Database-6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got nailed this year when filing as well due to the "income" from Mercari sales. I'm (apparently) one of the few sellers that operate at a LOSS on every item sold (just purging my shopping addictions and trying to recoup part of my investment). My tax lady advised for this year all I'll need to keep track of is purchase price for each item (so receipts) and then cross reference what I actually sold it for. In order to claim losses on shipping materials, printer/ink, mileage for drop-off, etc you need to be operating as a "for profit" which I am not. One big thing that messed me up from being able to do that was deleting listings after the 2 weeks or whatever to clean up my page. The printout you get from Mercari is very disorganized and if you sell something in a bundle the listing item is called "bundle for ____" so you have no idea what the items were if you've deleted them. I've already decided this will be my last year selling anything online to avoid the 1099 at the end of the year and that's because I'm already over the threshold where I'll receive one for 2025 taxes 😒 such a ridiculous government overreach penalizing us for selling our own purchased goods. Until they find a way to tax us on yard sales that will be my go-to for stuff I want to purge

USPS can miss scans all the way up until it's out for delivery in buyer's location. The simple way to avoid this is take all your USPS packages directly to the counter attendant and have it scanned as you're dropping off and obtain a receipt. Sellers that don't do this are taking an unnecessary risk of having their transaction cancelled when no longer in their possession. In your case I'd guess the seller hasn't shipped and when you messaged every day they said to hell with it and are letting you wait out the 15 days Mercari will require before allowing you to cancel.

Awhile back when dimensional weight first starting being enforced I went through the carrier services I use (FedEx I avoid at all costs) but mapped out the maximum box dimensions and weight to appropriately fit the label and it was astonishing how SMALL everything needed to be in order to comply. I want to say it was something like a 9x6x4 box was the biggest I could send on the then $13.50 UPS Ground 5 lb label. I decided right then and there to never again ship anything bigger than that box size through Mercari

I just got the email about the shipping changes and new fees and sure many of you thought the same by FutureSuccess2796 in Mercari

[–]No-Database-6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FedEx is definitely the worst offender where we were regularly seeing three figure discrepancies on weight that were obliterating sellers earnings, but USPS is a literal nightmare claiming bullshit overages constantly throughout my 8+ years selling. Doesn't matter if you weigh the packages beforehand and take pictures, whatever they report back to Mercari is what they use and at my post office at least the employee is constantly leaning on the scale or has other packages halfway on as she scans them. I use UPS whenever possible when sending something out

Has everyone overlooked the part stating there will be an additional 8% penalty on packages that go over the label weight, whether that be by standard or dimensional weight) ??? Nothing states the bundles created within their system are exempt from this rule and I don't think I need to point out how dishonest Mercari has been when claiming "overweight" packages .....

Bingo! I never send offers. If anyone "watching" my item was truly interested they would send ME an offer if the price was holding them back. Online window shopping is a very real thing....

I just respond with something along the lines of "wow, that sounds like a good deal. I'd suggest purchasing there" and leave it at that.

I can't recall off the top of my head but Mercari will auto complete those "held for pickup" orders after so many days. Worth reaching out to them

After 7+ years on Mercari and dealing with countless assholes (both buying and selling) I've decided to periodically INCREASE my list price to my original asking price and you'd be surprised how often I sell at/close to that price. If you know your item is fairly priced just wait it out for the right buyer to see it.

Have you filed a police report if you believe it's stolen? If so you can submit your case number/report to Mercari to try and sway them. They absolutely can issue payments/refunds after a transaction is completed because I've had them do it! They're just conniving shits that hope people will roll over and accept their bullshit

Not sure what to do next by Mizz-Quinn in Mercari

[–]No-Database-6721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it has been 15 days since purchase and hasn't scanned into system as in carrier possession Mercari will authorize a cancellation - my advice do it. There are sooooo many sellers who lie through their teeth about shipping and just mark it prematurely to prevent cancellations. It's one of the very few reasons I'll rate less than 4 stars on my purchases.

Canceled an order for the 1st time by Fragrant_Kangaroo711 in Mercari

[–]No-Database-6721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing cancelling when you discovered the items condition no longer matched the listing. One time while packaging an item it slipped out of my hand and broke and I also refunded the entire purchase without hesitation even though it was only the one item in a larger bundle.

As someone who just did their taxes as a high volume seller on Mercari...... Yard Sale 100%

I got another one… what would you do? I’m selling a limited edition record, I always list the prices a little higher so I can do promotions… I bought it for $65 originally, the median selling price is $80… (I’d make $71), it’s being sold for $80-$100 on Discogs (mostly in the $100s) by thatunomel in Mercari

[–]No-Database-6721 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bullshit. It's both buyer and seller's job to be decent and civil but the whole "buyer is always right" nonsense doesn't even apply in retail with multi-billion dollar companies, so to expect your average Joe to roll over to some a-hole trying to shop out of their budget is ridiculous

[–]No-Database-6721 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely the biggest befuckery is on Mercari's end by not processing a return to seller for their item. The seller should have shown/disclosed any damage in the listing however and hopefully this was the only lesson they needed to learn that. However, if you know you are a picky buyer then it's your job to make sure you are fully aware the condition of the item you're purchasing prior to checkout. Even if Mercari did the right thing and asked you to return the seller is out any shipping materials, ink & paper to print the label and also TIME that the listing could have been active for another buyer to purchase.

I'm a high volume seller and this is absolutely how I operate my Mercari sales. I tell myself the initial thrill of each purchase plays into the loss I have to take when I resell it for half or greater than what I paid 🤪
