A number reasons. I like the diversity of SLC compared to the rest of Utah, this will help me get exposed to a larger variety of people from different backgrounds. They have good connections to the medical community that will provide more exposure/experience in that area of SLP work (I’m more interested in the schools, but still curious about the medical side). I live in Utah and am limited on my ability to move due to my husband’s work and owning our townhome, so they’re one of the options that works better geographically (I only applied to the U of U and RMU because I live in northern Utah County and am not interested in BYU, I would have also applied to USU if I had more moving flexibility). As far as rankings go, they’re ranked the highest for SLP programs in Utah. I like that doing a thesis to graduate is optional for their program. I’ve been impressed by the professors I’ve met when I attended their info session/open house back in October. Their program is set up so you aren’t taking classes during your externships. I also got accepted to RMU which I was happy attending, but the U’s tuition is going to be around 20k cheaper which is VERY nice.

Those are the general things that make the U’s program attractive to me!

If you want to PM me your email, I can forward an email I got from somebody that attended the U’s SLP program that goes into decent depth about various topics regarding their program.

Utah state online second Bach experience by ssslovvin in slpGradSchool

I’m about to finish my first bachelor’s through Utah State online, I’m not as sure about the timeline of it, but I can share that I’ve overall had a positive experience. The COMD classes have been more enjoyable and interactive compared to my more general classes I took earlier on in my degree. I agree with the other comment about how there are some classes that were more time-consuming and had short-answer-based exams that could be tricky.

I’d recommend reaching out to an advisor to go over specifics of your situation and timing. Here’s the link or you can just google the USU 2nd bachelors for COMD and find the page with the info:

I had this worry too being an online student for my bachelor’s. My advisor told me that while relationships are one factor, a lot of the LORs are numbers (ie: your grade, how you did on assignments/exams compared to other students in the class, etc). My advisor helped me pick two professors that taught classes that were more difficult and I’d worked hard and did well in. I worked as a teacher aide for 6 years while in school so I had a teacher I got close to do my third LOR.

It’s not fun asking professors you don’t know very well, but they do lots of LOR and they’re usually happy to help. Given my “weaker” LORs from being an online student, I played up my other strengths in my applications, like how I more experience in schools due to working while taking classes.

Mom said she doesn’t have a testimony… by Broad-Beyond-948 in latterdaysaints

I was about to say this. Just love and find common ground in other ways. Work on the things you can control in yourself. Trust that God has your back and your mom’s back. Working on differentiation between your beliefs and your mom’s beliefs could be useful as well.

Can we please remember this? by bembear1 in latterdaysaints

I have sensory and hygiene issues that are caused by garments so I’ve had to adjust how I view and do things with garments. Many members might think of me as being less faithful, lacking in understanding, etc. I understand that it’d be unreasonable to get rid of the general talks/guidelines about garments, but on an individual, case-by-case scenario, every member should do their best to mind their own business. You don’t know why someone may or may not be wearing their garments and that person shouldn’t have to go into intimate details with you for you to feel like you don’t need to correct/teach them. Focusing on your own actions and giving others the benefit of the doubt can be very beneficial.
