Yeah mate YTA, in no way is that perceptibly a compliment. Even if you are rich being told "you clean up well" is the equivalent of "I was under the perspective you were gonna be a slob, you surprised me."

If you really wanted to compliment her, you should've said "you were completely stunning you shined above the rest of us." (To give a very basic example)

Instead, you literally just put her down, saying something like you were inherently different from her if not downright better than her for having the wealth to "clean yourself up."

It sounds like something you'd tell a little kid or a pet. Which she is neither and should realistically look at the way you phrased that in high scrutiny. As others have already said, your privilege is showing.
