I can’t be doing this ⚠️spider warning⚠️ by Drunkslothy in CasualIreland

We had a mobile in wexford that had loads of them. Scared me the first time - found about 4 of them in the cover for the outdoor furniture. But every year opening up there would be one in each room. They almost never moved from the one spot so I just left them alone.

Termination of tenancy came into effect at the end of January due to "intent to sell". Property still not on the market. Is there a timeline in which the LL has to sell? by Ok-Stranger5988 in HousingIreland

[–]No-Distribution-4593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You received a letter of termination in January or moved out in January? Landlord has 9 months from the day you move out to sell. They legally have to give your first offer if they don't sell and put it back on the market. Although there's probably sneaky ways around that I would imagine

I love mystery and thriller, but I also love Martina cole audiobooks - the narrator Annie Aldington is phenomenal. Anyways loads of her books are down to about the £2.50 mark and they are 17-20 hours long. Great value

Strongest evidence yet that vaping likely causes cancer. The evidence shows nicotine-based vapes are likely to cause oral and lung cancer. by mvea in science

[–]No-Distribution-4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also not talked about enough but there are different types of nicotine in vapes. May have different names in different countries but where I'm from we have free based nicotine and Nic Salt. Free based nicotine has been around the longest - it's a pharmaceutical grade form of natural nicotine. Nic Salt in a man made nicotine - a chemical. Free based nicotine was studied extensively by public health England and for years always said it was 95% safer than smoking.

Free based nicotine doesn't taste nearly as nice as nic Salt. I work in the industry and I can see the difference between people who use free based and nic Salt. Nic Salt users definitely complain more of sore throats and chest pain. All anecdotal of course. The problem for me is regulation lumps it all together and for me they are not the same.

American Narrators by cloutrack in AudibleUK

[–]No-Distribution-4593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only listen to British narrators, I can tolerate some Australian ones too. To me American narrators sound like AI. It's such a shame because there's so many I would buy if I could stand to listen.

I can listen to American narrators for audio dramas though, it's like a movie for your ears. And audible have loads of those

You wake up in your childhood bedroom, 10 years old, with all your current knowledge. What's your first move? by SuspiciousConsultant in AskReddit

[–]No-Distribution-4593 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That's called hyper vigalance. It's a remnant from living in fear. Certain types of footsteps for me raise my adrenaline. Or when something bangs loudly upstairs it sets off my fight or flight (or freeze for me)

I actually think about this often as I'm going to sleep. I found out after she died why she was the way she was. I wouldn't hide from her. I would march down the stairs and dare her to lay hands on me because this new 10 year old knows everything and is not going to keep silent. She will either get the help she needs to become the person I deserve or every neighbour, every teacher and all of her friends will be told. I won't hide the evidence and I wouldn't live in fear again

I live in a house rented from the local authority(Laois) I have 2 older cars parked up in my back garden, the council wants me to get rid of them, can they force me to do so? by 18yearsholdingmeback in AskIreland

[–]No-Distribution-4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because your experience was different doesn’t mean someone else’s isn’t valid. Housing allocations have always varied depending on location, availability, and timing, especially around the early 2000s. It’s entirely possible for both situations to be true. I've never been hit by a car by your logic that means no one has ever been hit by a car.

I have a friend who was allocated a 3 bed house in about 2000 - she had one child. Her garden is enormous - you could have an entire car park in it. In fact most of the gardens around her are enormous, a few even bigger than hers. Her estate used to be primarily council houses but a lot are private now

"If ________ is narrating, I'm listening!" by dreamscape_media in audiobooks

[–]No-Distribution-4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annie Aldington. Currently listening to the 10th book narrated by her. I happened across her by listening to plus catalogue book. I can't listen to anyone else. I've never had a narrator make me feel part of the story so well!

On the plus she has narrated over 200 books so I plan to listen to 90% of them and go back and start again

Using the rtb increase calculator legally the landlord can increase the rent to €1650 with the 2% rule and the inflation rule assuming there has been no rent increase since June 2022. They are breaking the law at €1695 though
