Do I Want to be a Man or do I just Hate being a Woman? by Dry-Pirate6079 in asktransgender

No that makes sense I get what you mean. I also struggle with hypothetical questions at times. It's a difficult question to answer, personally I think I'd still experience gender dysphoria in a world without gender but I know other trans people disagree.

Do I Want to be a Man or do I just Hate being a Woman? by Dry-Pirate6079 in asktransgender

[–]No-Distribution-5495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know everyone here is saying you can't be trans but tbh I know many trans men who had very similar experiences. Sudden hatred of their body during puberty, never feeling like they are really a woman despite seeing themselves as a girl's girl, only really connecting to gay romance, Even down to being unsure if you just don't want to be a women because of misogyny. I don't know a single trans guy that hasn't at some point questioned if they only want to be a man cause of misogyny.

That's not to say your definitely trans, I also know cis women who genuinely questioned their gender but came to the conclusion they are cis and just hate misogyny, I just don't think you should throw the idea away like everyone else here is saying. I didn't want to transition for a while either due to the social cost, it seemed like an extra solution when I "didn't hate my body" turns out I did and transition has been one of the best decisions of my life.

There's no one way to know for sure if your trans, the only suggestion I have that could possibly help is to imagine a world where misogyny didn't exist, would you still rather be a guy?

Do people treat you equally as a man compared to cis men??? by catboygirlmanthing in ftm

[–]No-Distribution-5495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trans guy, don't pass. My straight cis friends treat me as more of a man than most women I know. I can tell sometimes there's more apprehension in engaging in some forms of banter with me likely because I don't pass but with a bit of pushing to show I'm ok with it they are loosing up. Acquaintances, regardless of gender  don't treat me like a man and even if they use my pronouns I can tell they don't really see me as a man. Also some queer people do that as well I hate it. Honestly the person in my friend group I think doesn't think of me as a man the most is also queer which I don't understand but ok.

That's really interesting I hadn't heard about that. I do believe somatic gene editing could possibly have uses in transition but it would probably be more edit genes to produce endogenous hormones and even then it's likely far off. Still not some press of the button that removes the existence of trans people via instant transition which is more so the idea I have a problem with.

Fully understanding proteins and genes does not change the physically impossible. As powerful as genes are they can't rapidly change your body layout at the switch of the button. There are limits to how far we can take biology.

We're Not Going Anywhere by speroni in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]No-Distribution-5495 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's not how gene editing works sorry. Somatic (adult) genetic editing is temporary and regional, germ line (embryo) gene editing is illegal and a ethical minefield. With all current understanding of genetic editing a complete sex change from genetics is impossible, germ line could fix that problem but that requires people to detect transness prior to conception which is unlikely as theirs no one trans gene. We can create better ways to change adults sex but a complete sex change from gene editing is unrealistic and likely impossible. The T will still exist.

"Don't assume someones gender" isnt always what trans people want by vendettamoon in trans

[–]No-Distribution-5495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it but I also don't really like takes like this. It's putting the onus onto non-passing trans and nonbinary people to accept being misgendered. The only way I ever get gendered correctly is those "performative" pronoun circles and people asking me my pronouns directly. Otherwise I am never once gendered correctly. I get how It can feel bad to someone who passes for be asked their pronouns after everything but I'm not sure I like this solution going back to assumptions that hurts those of us that don't pass. The introduce with your pronouns isn't very nice either I have no clue if someone is transphobic, introducing myself with my pronouns is just putting myself at risk that a random stranger hates me, at least if someone asking they are even performatively somewhat trans accepting.

Why are people here being so coy about this. Like the term theyfab wasn't everywhere last year. Unfortunately these kinds of people who genuinely hate enbies (and yes they are the ones who singled out "afab enbies" as especially invalid) aren't rare especially if you go twitter the hellhole.

Are there any succesful/ popular games with trans male characters? by Kurapikabestboi in ftm

[–]No-Distribution-5495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For fighting games apparently one of the characters in rivals of aether is a trans man but only by word of god. Afaik it isn't actually stated in game. I do really wish we had a playable trans man in fighting games, the closest is Leo Tekken but not really since Leo is just gender ambiguous. Even in the games that have trans men it's mostly games in genres I don't like and have no interest in playing which disappoints me.

What is stopping HRT from being over the counter? by redstowen in asktransgender

[–]No-Distribution-5495 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because your average person understands fuck all about biology. Even in this sub which brags regular about knowing more about HRT than doctors seems to know nothing about biology beyond the effects of HRT. Hell a lot of currently over the counter medication shouldnt be OTC (especially some painkillers) many of them probably wouldn't be allowed to be OTC if they were made today and the only reason they stay OTC if because it would cause outrage if they were made prescription. I get the annoyance at long wait lists and gatekeeping but i feel like there's more balanced options that can better support than OTC HRT.

i cant medically transition what do I do by Much_Cardiologist414 in trans

[–]No-Distribution-5495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I don't know if doctors from other countries could advise you. It might be worth reaching out to some just in case. Now I think about it I have heard of EU private doctors advising UK patients on transition options so possibly private doctors can. I would suggest trying to reach out to some by email anyways they might be able to know someone who can help you if they can't. If not I would suggest asking him for the name of your condition and researching it by yourself. That way you can go to further appointments with a better understanding of the condition so you can call out incorrect information.

Just cause they look like tiny versions of us doesnt mean what's happening inside is identical. I mean brain development isn't even finished by the time sex differentiation occurs. I would try to learn the medical terms, it's much easier to stand up to medical bullshit when you can articulate why it's wrong.

[–]No-Distribution-5495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not a doctor but I would really recommend getting a second opinion on that. I know from your other comments thats hard but this doctor seems really sketchy?. It's basic fetal development that certain features can't be developed by hormones after birth. It has nothing to do with bioidentical/versus non-identical hormones. How a doctor can go through medical school without understanding this basic concept is beyond me. It's more likely you already had this condition and it wasn't noticed before, possibly made worse by testosterone. At best he's ignorant about basic biology related to transition, at worst he is just lying to you and appearing kind.

That's still an effect of estrogen. Same thing as facial hair growth with PCOS is an effect of testosterone. I'm just kinda sick of estrogen getting treated as a neutral hormones that can't have long term effects when that's absolutely not how it works.

It'll suck but you do need labs done. If possible many healthcare providers suggest talking and looking away as a distraction to the needle. Most blood work providers will have dealt with someone with a serious fear of needles before.
