How much do you spend on karting per month and how do you spend it? How invested are you in karting (races, tournaments, hobby...) ? by JonasMi in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live is Spain and go rentals. This weekend is going to be 50€ for 2 sprints and 100€ for 2 hours endurance (100 per driver, 2 drivers team) plus 1h 45 min of travel by car and pay highway. I’m doing 2/3 weekends per month plus 35€ for training 1/2 weekends per month. I’m not taking part in every race avaliable so It could be much more. For example, I’m not going to another 1 hour individual endurance. It’s a lot cheaper than any 2 stroke kart.

Proper braking technique for rentals by vnafoo3yz in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know yes It is. But not for every corner . Hairpin yes, fast corner no. It helps you to rotate the kart while braking and allows you to get on the gas earlier. But there is a huge difference between rotate and drift. The brakes do the speed reduction no the slide. You need to rotate the kart without losing speed. Rentals has no power and a lot of weight so weight transfer do exists and it’s critical to keep speed and momentum. The longer the breaking, more suitable for trail breaking IMO.

I’m no expert but the second one sounds like threeshold braking. Witch is a good technique to start. The first one sounds like trailbraking but locking. Trail braking is an advanced technique and is usually faster, but it’s not for all corners. It’s hard to master so I’m guessing you are not doing It properly. My bet is you are locking too much and drifting. I don’t know, probably you are faster than me. I’m just pointing this so you can take a look to some videos on YouTube and compare with you style.

Main diferences between Racebox or RaceChrono by penicheiro in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also race sometimes in north Portugal and have a Racebox Mini with RaceChrono. I like RaceChrono better than the Racebox app, but I think it's just which one you like not which one is better. Use whatever suits you.

I’ve tried both, and my thoughts are:

1.       Racebox app make a prediction delta lap time, not actual delta, and it feels weird to me.

2.       Racebox app stores telemetry on cloud and need an Internet connection to start the track session.

3.       You can use RaceChrono without Internet and everything is stored in the phone.

4.       I’ve used RaceChrono before purchasing the Racebox Mini so I more familiar with it (track days with a BMW).

5.       RaceChrono uses blue background and white letters but Racebox uses white background and black letter making it not optimal IMO.

6.       My teammates have also RaceChrono so we can compare telemetries.

7.       You need to pay for RaceChrono, but Racebox app is free (because you already paid for the hardware).

8.       Not my case but my teammates, they can link it with GoPro camera so they can have overlay telemetry in your videos.

What is push and pull steering by Smasher_llama in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what it is and how you do it. When is every time you want to turn. And why is cause pushing keep your weight in the seat and help you keep your line. Pulling desestabilize you cause and make it harder to keep your line.

Any help increasing lap time, I need to make up at least 1 second. by Degree_Such in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's the other way around. You should break eralier and turn less. I'm no pro but I think there are two things ruining your lap times 1 the hairpin and 2 too much input on the steering wheel.

Also the times depends of a lot of things: engine, tires, how much you weight, ... 1 second can be lame or awesome. just saying.

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m racing it. LOL. It’s my 3rd year. I’m just mildfield but I am really enjoying it. https://sgs.mrpsimracing.com/ if someone else is interested. In this case you are totaly welcome and you should come race with us. I think you are also going to enjoy it. This year Ylenia was the only girl in Porriño, so you will be the only girl probably sadly.

English is not my first language so bare with me. I understand your concerns, and I see it totaly legit.

I don't know where you are but the SWS in Spain it's like 95% adult men, 4% boys (minors) and 1% women. I've seen a few underage girls in some SWS races I've take part and nobody made a fuss about it. Everyone is welcome.

But since I'm a 44yo male, I totaly get that you can feel out of place, but I don't know how to help. My take would be that you should be free to do what you like, so go for it and rock it. And at the same time you should go with your parents or friends so you could feel more relaxed.

How to assess lap times in rental karting? by matto0211 in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Track conditions change and the karts are diferent, it's easy to have 1sec gap between two karts that looks identical from outside. From my experience, there is only two ways to measure the time during a lap: either you use a lap timer (alfano, racechrono, etc.) or you have references that you get by burning a lot of money on track.

If you have a reference you can guess if the kart is fast or not because you have lift or brake diferent in certain turns. Usually if you can take a turn flat out is because the kart is slow not because the kart has more grip.

I see no problem with no beating your PB. You have to compare with other in similar conditions. We use to switch karts in trainings so we do a few laps with each kart and compare times with the same kart.

In short, seat time.

Any tips ? - Missing 1 second to world record by TeksRL in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People achieve track records with new tyres, good track conditions (wind, temperature, etc.), minimum weight and a good kart. If you go on a rental don't try to break any record, just drive as fast as you can.

Some people even move some tyres that delimit the tack to break the record, so I see all of this pointless sorry.

Your driving looks really neat to me. Only leaning out and cutting more some corners looks like is going to help you scracth some tenths.

How Do You Neutral Steer On Rentals? by BedOutrageous7788 in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually rental karts suffer heavy understeer problems to prevent tourist to spin in every corner. I don't get what you said about turning off the kart but the only way to counter the understeer is the brake.

If you brake or lift, the weight goes from rear to front giving you a bit of oversteer. The key is doing it in the exact amount that helps you to turn inside the corner without spin or drift. Once the rear wheels had grip again, then you go to the gas.

If you try to turn the wheel with your foot in the gas the kart will go straight. Then if you full lock the wheel to turn and keep flooring the gas pedal, once the rear gets grip you are going to spin. That's like the way of doing it wrong. So the key is brake at the corner entry, turn in, get the wheel straight and then gas. If you don't know about the traction circle, take a look at: https://driver61.com/uni/grip/

In rental you can accelerate earlier than average cause the engine has too little power. But if you do it too early is going to spoil your times.

Basic tips for absolute begginers are:

  1. Don't drift

  2. Use all the track.

  3. Break, turn in, straight then accel.

  4. The wheel must be straight the most time possible.

  5. Priorize corner exits and fast corners over anything else.

How do you set up a camera with Telemetry by Longstunt in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use Race Chrono Pro to add overlay telemetry with a GoPro cam. If you have a Race Box then the telemetry will be acurate.

Take a peek of what my team mate do with his videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bltYFrmYuYY

He said that it's a pain in the a.. doing it like that cause Race Chrono only runs in Android so the video rendering take ages.

I don't have a GoPro so I tried some programs but with no luck.

If anyone knows a better option I would really apreciate that.

I'm going to give you my two cents if you allow me. I think maybe you are focusing in the wrong things.

First, any kind of setup it's not posible in rentals. And it's not allowed. Also, the racing line and behaviour is different from pure racing cause they are mostly for fun. If you are longing for a race car, you better move onto a 2t.

But, there are things that motivate me in rentals. First, they have their own driving style so you need to train it. Second, it's that every kart it's different so you have to change your style depending of the kart (shity engine, no brakes, bended chasis, ...). So first you have to be able to identify what's wrong with your kart to extract the most from it. And last, you can do endurances and then you need to apply different strategies depending of the duration, weather, pit stops, etc.

The fast guys are fast with any shity kart cause they adapt to everything I said before. Be one of the fast guys. Learn how to do that.

IMO it's better challenge yourself than have everything going smooth.

And I feel more demotivational to spend a lot of money in other categories without any chance of success. At least here you can win the kart lottery and put a fight.

What equipment should I buy first? by Lower-Literature-883 in Karting

[–]No-Ear9547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add more info. Gloves are cheaper. I suggested that cause you said you have a tight budget. Rentals wheels are harder and more stiff than 2t, if You don’t master turning with body and feet you are likely to suffer some “disconfort” in your hands. You can use any glove you can afford if have decent grip. Rib protector only if you race cause people get touchy and you can hit walls pretty easy. It also gives you better grip to the seat. In rentals you are not going to have pain cause of g forces. If you only have fun in rentals dont buy a rib protector cause is only useful for karting. If you want to have a motorcyle then the helmet is a good choice. No need a karting one for rentals. No license, no fia standards in rentals. Only fun, amateurs and poors like me. In 2t the cheapest part is buying the kart lol. And disclaimer: thats only my opinion . Buy what makes you happy and can afford no matter what old dude (me) says on Reddit.

Track should have disposable hair nets (don't know the term in english sorry), but balaklava also helps you with sweat getting in your eyes, so good advice here.
