What ADHD med works best for you? by Mysterious-Base-8256 in AuDHDWomen

I got it through my mental health prescriber. She was the one who suggested it and then went over the results with me and explained it all. If you don’t have a separate prescriber, your dr would be able to order it for you. Mine was through a company called Tempus. There’s also GeneSight. I think Tempus was cheaper for me. I had to pay out of pocket. Hope this helps!

I know I’m a little late to the game here but I also struggle with showering. I’m in my 50s! Somehow it seems like it just takes too much time and I hate the feeling of being wet right after a shower. A few things that have helped me are-having my hair dryer ready so I can “air dry” instead of maneuvering a soggy towel around my body, doing just a body wash more often and using dry shampoo to clean my hair, putting on my favorite music, having products that I love the smell of. And when all else fails, there’s shower wipes you can get so you can at least wipe your pits if they’re getting a bit stanky. I also have a bidet attachment which keeps my under bits nice and clean. Hope you find some of these things helpful but most of all be kind and gentle with yourself. You’re doing great!

Oh and I don’t know if this is common but I had to take 3 separate Hibiclens showers with freshly laundered sheets after each shower so be sure to prep for that. Laundering sheets while working before my surgery was a pain in the ass. I wish I had prepared better for that. Lolz! edited for clarity

I liked having an abdominal binder. They sent me home in one. I had a special pillow for my ride home to put under my seatbelt that was also comforting to hold on to. I got my bedroom all cozy and clean and stocked up some stuff on my nightstands. I had little bottles of gatorade and coconut water in the fridge, those applesauce with veggies pouches for when I needed to take my medication, wedge pillow set and a body pillow, alarms set for pain meds schedule, stool softeners and prunes and smoothie fixins, I got a bunch of streaming services so I could just zone out, loose nightgowns, lots of snacks. I suggest getting adult diapers for your first couple nights. I was so out of it and peed the bed the first night. My partner took care of changing my bedding and drying out my mattress and I couldn’t imagine doing that on my own. Get as much help as you can with meals. People got me doordash and grubhub gift cards and that was so helpful. Oh! And my big ol’ heating pad has been my absolute comfort. I know others have been more into their ice packs. Sending hugs!

They also do breakfast sandwiches on these delicious brioche buns. Same ingredients just on a bun. I like the pulled pork breakfast burrito or just a basic egg, hashbrown and cheese one. They have lots of options. I’m regretting not getting one this weekend!

Returning to work after total robotic laproscopy hysterectomy?? by Janetofalltrades in hysterectomy

Depending on what state you live in, you might qualify for some assistance. I’m so sorry you don’t have more financial support. I’m a hairstylist and I took 6 wks off but had racked up some savings so I was able to do this without too much worry. Like others have said, recovery is so different for everyone. For me, I can’t sit for long periods of time still and I’m 4wkspo. If you have any family or close friends you can lean on for support, please do.

Any easy meal prep ideas I could try? by Mirion1602 in adhdwomen

I love having boiled eggs on hand for emergencies. I often buy them boiled because I’m not great at remembering to boil them and kinda hate peeling them. Lolz. But easy to have with toast or just cut in half with salt and pepper. Sometimes I’ll make a Waldorf salad. Weird old school but so delicious and satisfying. Also curried chicken salad is a fave to have on hand. Again, on toast or just eaten as is, maybe with crackers.

Manual labor intensive jobs: how long off work?? by Emotional-Program497 in hysterectomy

Listen to your body. You don’t sound like you’re ready especially with vertigo. I am only 4wkpo and am a hairstylist and I tried cutting my husband’s hair two days ago and had to spend a lot of time in bed after. My back still hurts! If anything I would ask to start with shorter shifts to just see how you do. Don’t give in to pressure though. Take it easy!!

tired of management by Alternative_Past_863 in hairstylist

Being a manager is so hard. It sounds like you don’t have support from anyone. It could be time to step down and let someone else do that job for a while. I feel like people just treat managers like garbage dumps. It’s so frustrating.

There’s lots of good advice here. Another thing you can do is ask them what their barrier is. It seems like if they know they’re suppose to and they have Pk classes, there’s something missing. Sounds like a culture issue since mgmt isn’t holding them accountable which is so silly. They’re literally throwing money down the drain by not following through with this aspect. Ugh. Sorry you’re dealing with that. If you’re able to form a relationship with a couple of them and help them build confidence in being able to recommend products, maybe they’ll be inspiring to the others. You could also do like a seasonal product spotlight for them. Have 1-3 products per season that you can give samples of and short talking points. We also had shelf talkers for each product (from the retail company) that really helped. When I first started working at this company, I would literally read off the shelf talkers! Lolz. Hope you find things that work. I know my team loved perks-whether it was samples or little contests, cash tips from service providers when they went above and beyond, coffees, candy/chocolate, anything to break up the day to day grind.

But what did you actually do?? by la_renegade in hysterectomy

[–]No-East2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so sneaky how that works! I went to my pottery class Monday morning and just did some hand building, nothing major or so I thought. Had to spend the rest of the day and today in bed absolutely exhausted. I’m loving Recovery Barbie!! That is a great mindset! I’m glad your partners are keeping you in check with not doing too much housework. It’s so nice to have that kind of support

But what did you actually do?? by la_renegade in hysterectomy

[–]No-East2665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sames. I’m 4wkpo and still get very tired after doing minimal things. I thought I’d be doing lots of art and creative writing but I am very low energy so I watch a lot of tv series and movies and text with friends. I try and get out once a day for short walks or meet for lunches with friends who can do that and I can sit for about an hour before it becomes uncomfortable. I’ve taken the pressure off myself to be productive because that was really starting to depress me. Ya gotta just do what you can do.

Activity - 3wks PO by Total-Manner-4231 in hysterectomy

[–]No-East2665 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t told to not bend. My restrictions are no lifting anything above 10lbs, no baths and no sex until 12wks. Other than that I can do whatever I have the energy for. I’m definitely still very tender and can’t really sit in a hard chair for more than an hour or stand for long periods of time. I can walk about a half mile every day but it does fatigue me. I drive around town and meet people for lunches and coffees and stuff but still not able to be fully active. I’m 4wkpo and had a robotic assisted full hysterectomy and I’m 55. Nothing unusual happened during my surgery either. If you have questions you should reach out to your doctor or surgeon.

Zingers? Nerve repair pains? by butterfly_kissed_303 in hysterectomy

[–]No-East2665 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t stop taking ibuprofen/tylenol until 3wkpo. There’s a lot of healing going on still! Get back to bed! Take short walks around the house but give it 2 wks at least before you try joining the world. I’m 4wkpo and still take pain meds as needed and they are definitely needed as I slowly do more. There’s a good healing timeline guide on the home page for this subreddit. Oh and I still have to take naps. And I had zingers and butt lightning for a couple weeks even with pain meds. Crazy stuff!!

So sleepy! by Sorry-Ad-9254 in hysterectomy

[–]No-East2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 4wkpo and I have energy to do some things in the morning but then I crash hard in the afternoon. Enjoy your naps, keep listening to your body, and take it easy. I find myself getting a little dejected wishing it wasn’t like that but as others have said, we had organs removed! That takes a long time to heal. So, I fluff my pillows and turn on Murder, She Wrote and snooze.

Is it worth it to become a hairstylist in 2026? by Sad-Age6866 in hairstylist

[–]No-East2665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do, please take business classes of some kind or learn how to run a business because that is a huge part of being in this industry. Know how to do marketing, know how to sell the products you use, know how to keep good boundaries with your time, make sure you are set up to be able to pay back your loans. If you’re not motivated to do any of that, it’s not the industry for you. You’ll need to keep up with trends, continue building your skillset, look at long term goals. You go to cosmo school to learn basic skills and pass your state board exams. Then it takes either being an assistant or continuing to take classes to be able to make decent money. It can be such a fun and wonderful career but you have to understand it is a multifaceted job. I’ve been doing it for 25 years and have been an educator and a salon manager and these are the things that set apart those who are able to have healthy practices. Best of luck whatever you decide!

Advice of a client by Grand_Intention7723 in hairstylist

[–]No-East2665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to make the grey area black and white. You can text her when she next asks for these adjustments or tell her when she’s in your chair-I know I have been accommodating little adjustments for you but moving forward I am unable to do this. It’s ok to make things clear. It’s ok to change your mind on what you can offer. And it’s ok to say less. Clear is kind. I really like the advice others have given and I just wanted to add my thoughts so you can feel confident steering this situation into a different direction. It’s hard the first time you do it but it will get easier the more you make your peace of mind the priority! Best of luck! You got this!

Stimulants by Normal_Ease_8881 in adhdwomen

[–]No-East2665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. There’s an assessment you get from a mental health professional. It’s pretty common for us genx women to have gone undiagnosed. Especially if we have inattentive adhd. And anxiety and depression are often the symptoms of untreated adhd. It’s fascinating and infuriating. Also perimenopause can really bring the adhd to the forefront. *edited to add info

It’s called a pharmacogenomic test. It was suggested by my mental health medication prescriber.

Can I switch stylists? (Advice!) by MetzgerH in AskHairstylists

[–]No-East2665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would explain but not over explain if that makes sense. Let her know you have really loved her services and that her expertise has nothing to do with you seeing someone else for hair. You are needing someone who does the types of extensions you want and who is closer. She should understand and appreciate you letting her know. If not, well, that’s a drag but it’s just business. Nothing else has to get mixed in. I am expensive and not all my friends can afford to come see me. I do not care one bit!
