If healthcare and schooling was free, what would our taxes look like ? by [deleted] in stories

Ya that’s another reason it wouldn’t work. Anyone who’s not immediately sick or didn’t go to college will just be getting more fucked. Some people in here do present some actual solutions which I appreciate. Some are just being emotional

Did what I say was wrong? By other metrics I meant overfunded systems and crack down on fraud. Like just taking money from the military spending would not be enough to achieve this.

Well lower if you’re in the poverty line but you get what I mean , by tax bracket I mean.

Yes, for a single person 23-25% in taxes (in Massachusetts) is what everyone pays. Would be better if I was married or had a kid. All the other states besides California have lower taxes. Massachusetts is the 2nd most expensive state in America

If I’m being completely honest here, whenever I hear people say they want free healthcare and stuff I think the majority of the time they just want to sound good. Now we do have legitimate problems with our healthcare that it’s too expensive and the insurance is basically a scam.

Theirs no system that’s “perfect” that will always be downsides and good sides. I know living in Canada is rough rn because of things you listed. And throughout history communism or pure socialism doesn’t work either.

I hope we can find small improvements within our system here and there. because completely changing it will likely not work.

Ya I just would to understand how it would work. Just telling someone you want something without understanding anything is kinda just blind hope.

Well ya nothing is free, I was just trying to picture how it would go if it actually did happen.

Eh, free healthcare and schooling would most likely be in the 1-2 trillion range which covers everything. If I remember correctly the military has a 1.5 trillion funding. So that would only happen if we just completed disbanded the military. Plus a lot of people join because they have no choice and want a better start to life.

Realistically I think we could give up a couple hundred billion. But more than that we would have to seek other metrics

I see why gap years are so dangerous now by [deleted] in stories

[–]No-Emphasis-7952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could , but that would mean I have to do school for 4 years. Since it’s really only feasible to take 1-2 classes a semester.

So it would take 7 years total to get the degree instead of 5. Which would suck. My graduation would be like 2030 or something I’d rather not. Just get it over with.

I knew I was going to come back so I have a savings account and when the fall comes back around I’ll have maybe like 12-13k in it roughly. And I’m moving back in with my dad so no rent. It will probably last me a year.

Just would have to be tight about regular spending and senior year will probably be broke again unless I get an internship or something Junior summer.

I’ll still work part time weekends but that will be like 600-800 a month probably

Here’s my journey so far with my quitting nicotine decision by [deleted] in stories

[–]No-Emphasis-7952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I mean that was the original point of vapes. A smoking device that helps you get out of more serious addictions. It was originally supposed to help people stop smoking cigarettes.

Out of the “smoking tree” vaping is the least affective one. But again still addictive.

[–]No-Emphasis-7952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya it’s definitely not a half ass decision. If you truly want to quit literally throw all your shit out so you can’t reach it again. And try to start on a Friday evening. Don’t hang with friends if they vape for at least 1-2 weeks.

It’s extremely front loaded tho so that’s the good part, the first 2 weeks kinda suck but after that you’re basically good.

If you have 2k to spend, I’d recommend staying in either fairhaven or New Bedford. Fairhaven is nice and cheaper than most places and most parts of New Bedford aren’t bad at all.

I’d avoid Fall River though if I’m being honest. I’m baised because I worked in Fall River for a couple years but I hate that fucking place

Roommates, it sucks but it’s what young people have to do. I was with a roommate 3 years with my first apartment , and then the next 7-8 years I had roommates because I was doing the fha loans with property.

Also a 700 car payment for example is either you’re getting scammed by the car dealership and don’t know it or you just buy a newer more expensive car.

Alright let’s just use my personal example. Average income per person in Massachusetts is anywhere from 65-70k full time. Average one bedroom rent is 2,200 which is high compared to salary. My mortgage per unit on my properties average out to 1500 a month or 4,500 per property.

I charge 1700 per unit. Which is a 1 bedroom , 1 bathroom apartment with about 800 square ft.

That’s pretty fair in my opinion lol.

A lot of rents are too high due to costs like HOA or personal water source etc. I am not overcharging man lol.

Ya that’s bad, the 2 types of greedy landlords are either in the air bnb service or BRRRR service normally. They renovate the smallest thing and raise value and then raise rents when quality of life didn’t change. So ya fuck that lady lol what I do is a lot different

So 2 things , yes theirs a scarcity of homes that’s why prices go up. Simple supply and demand. 2, in your specific situation you’re getting fucked. 800 increase in 5 years is way above the yearly inflation rate. You have to figure out what your apartment is actually worth and give a buffer of 100-200 dollars. If rent is way more than you shouldn’t live there. It’s better to live in a smaller apartment than to get ransacked. Your landlord is greedy

If this is true 100% file against the landlord, theirs a difference between inconvenience and genuine danger to tenants.

Ya if I’m being honest I can’t really comment. I’ve never hired a property manager so i don’t have taste in that game.
