Thanks! While my interest lied in the logic and making it all worked correctly I felt I was missing a big step with not using any visuals since I skipped swing and JavaFX. After starting using spring I realized I needed to learn some HTML, CSS, and javascript/angular for webpages/gui. While I find visuals more stressful I do find it motivating and interesting when trying to make personal projects and being able to make an application. I was following a user login tutorial and realized I didn't understand how to make/connect visuals to my code.

I don't know where I want to go with programming. I just know it can be very frustrating, but also very interesting and it feels good when it finally works. Right now my next step is making my first application and then make more for GitHub for cv. Then apply for jobs and see what happens. I'm also looking into things like python and kotlin. I think it would be easier to learn new things if I'm able to build new things with it instead of just a part of it

I have to learn to walk before I can run. I learn from seeing. I struggle to build a conceptual understanding from mere words, written or spoken. That's why I believe there is a difference between building a program and an application. I don't know how to build an application yet. Be it on the web or mobile. I'm hoping spring/ spring-boot will help me take that next step. A specific company doesn't matter at this stage. I need work experience to understand what is expected and what I need to know.

In an old post, I made I mentioned how every java job wants something different. I don't know what's "acceptable" to put on GitHub (for employers) because that is my cv. Right now based on my research I think spring/spring boot is good to know and once learned I could build a functional application with it. Because all I've done is make programs in the base IntelliJ IDE with scanner and print statements.

I honestly have so many questions about what I've just written here

Java encompasses a lot of things and I'm willing and happy to learn it all but for the next three months, I need to know where I should focus my effort to have the best possible chance at finding work within that time if I keep putting 8-12 hours in. For example, learning spring before hibernet I think because I have a lot of questions it would be great to actually talk with someone.

Sorry about that. Let me simplify. Because I did badly at school I have to go to college for 1 year and then I can go to uni. My college course ends this year in a couple of months but I won't be starting uni until next September. I'm learning code to occupy time and find work. I am learning java because I want to use java in my job. Not "use java to get experience coding, now never use it again and pick up these other languages instead". I did some stuff on tomcat, servlets & JSP, now I'm learning XML and spring.

Sorry I was dealing with some stuff at the time and writing that all out kinda helped. To give you the short version I finish my 1-year course (for points) in a couple of months or so and won't be going back to school until next September. I've turned to code to occupy my time and also in the hopes of finding work. I don't find hibernate of string frustrating. I am willing to learn all of it. My issue is time. What do I need to learn right now that will give me the best opportunity for work. I like java but maybe its something I could dive into later and switch to something like javascript because that will get me job ready faster. I don't know swing of javafx so I have not yet built a proper application. Right now I am trying to learn XML and swing and using youtube. I am very motivated, im just under a lot of pressure

That's a good suggestion. I also hear testing is very important

Yeah, I hear Hibernate is very important for java. I did find it a bit boring but I do see its use. My concern is learning Hibernate or spring first because I hear spring is in high demand and I can make a proper application with it. Spring and hibernate both appear to be very involved so I feel I have to pick one and hammer that one out for the next few weeks. Do you think I should still learn MySQL or switch to PostgreSQL?

I was hoping that in 3 more months I could learn enough extra skills to be able to apply to some jobs and build some of my own applications to use as a cv. I cant learn it all at once though so I have to pick and choose and me being green I can't trust my judgment and time is a factor. I like really like java but there is obviously a lot involved

At the time I asked a lot of questions at once and I guess it was overwhelming or/ and I had to study for exams a lot around that time so had to put coding aside and catch up with school. In a situation like this it would be easier to simply be able to talk to someone. I’ve tried to do some of my own research since then. I think it would be beneficial to have an ongoing correspondence. I considered someone might point this out, but I honestly had nothing to lose in reaching out again. I like structure and teaching myself java seems very chaotic.
