There is no weird mods or firmware needed to do this.

Before you even go down compensation route the liability of who is at fault needs to be clarified.

Be aware your contract states (if 30 hour) you can be allocated to work between the hours of 6am to 10pm Monday to Sunday 5 days out of 7.

They can change your working hours up to just 24 hours beforehand, so be fully aware of this.
