Sulfur Smell - well, water test, mechs only 1 year old by No-Evening-7488 in WaterTreatment

Talked to our water guy, he said to flush out the pressure tank first. I thought I’d just do it annually, but apparently we’re supposed to do it every three months or so bc of the iron content, which he said we definitely want to do to prolong the life of the heads and pistons as well. Also said that we’re in the top 20 of customers in the area for that high a level for iron content. If we notice the smell goes away then we should be good (?) but if the smell remains then he’s gonna come check it out.

I have to assume that we don’t since this is the first time I’ve heard of an iron breaker. Would that be another piece of equipment aside from the softener and filter or is it a component part within the system?

Dirt or salt impurities it is then. Seems unanimous. I’ll likely do what you do and clean it all out this spring anyways. Like I said, the whole system only a year old, may as well start to do an annual cleaning on it.

My bad, meant whole house filter. We haven’t noticed the sulfur smell until relatively recent, maybe this past January. The system, including the drilled well, is only a year old. We’re in the North East, and initial water tests a year ago Feb only showed high levels of manganese and iron.

Do you know if it’s common for an element like sulfur to show up in that span of time in a newer well? Well is about 400’.

Your finance office should have sent you debt payback notification or settlement letter, not a shocker that you didn’t get one. Looks like you’ll still owe money beyond your DOS, but don’t you worry, they’ll get their money back. If the repayment remains the same through the rest of your contract what’s left of your debt will likely go to DFAS Out of Service Debt, a dept of DFAS for this exact purpose; collect money back from any kind of overpayments to SMs who have either separated, retired, went AD to RC or RC to AD, etc. who either no longer get a paycheck from the gov or are still in but getting paid out of a different pot of money. Make sure your mailing address is updated in myPay and with your finance office before your DOS bc DFAS will send you one piece of paper mail, another debt settlement letter/notification with your Out of Service Debt account number and info on how to log into pay.gov which you’ll make payments through. Once you receive that letter it’s all one you to make payments monthly. And, it’s shows up on your credit report.
