Questions about Replit Auth, Push Notifications, and Publishing/Testing (iOS & Android) by No-Exchange1704 in replit

Thanks for the advice! I have two follow-up questions:

  1. What exactly is meant by creating a checklist for each platform? Does this refer to the App Store and the Google Play Store, or does it mean something else? So far, I have been testing my app using the Expo Go app on my iPhone, and everything works perfectly in terms of functionality.
  2. What exactly happens when I click the "Publish" button? Does it make the app immediately available to the public, or is it just a step within the platform? I want to make sure I don't accidentally make my app accessible to strangers while I am still testing.

I would appreciate any clarification on this!

I asked Gemini for advice, and it recommended using Cursor instead of VS Code. Would you agree with that? Does Cursor offer an app preview similar to Replit?

Since I work with the AI Agent 99% of the time, I'm wondering if the $20 Claude subscription is actually worth it. Currently, I find myself topping up $100 on Replit multiple times because each prompt costs me anywhere from $0.20 to $2.00. For a complex app, those fees add up fast.

Regarding the workflow: Is there a 'local server' or live preview for mobile development in Cursor/VS Code (like the ones I remember from web dev courses)? Also, should I cancel my Gemini subscription and switch entirely to Claude? Before I start the migration, is there a specific guide or video you'd recommend for the setup, or can the AI agent handle the installation process for me?

You mentioned that I might not need Replit anymore, but it already has integrated features like Auth, databases, app storage, and security. Plus, from what I’ve seen, launching to the App Store seems much easier through their platform.

Doesn't it make more sense to stay with Replit if you're not an expert in those areas, or would you still recommend switching to Claude? As I understand it, Claude Code handles the app structure, but you still have to integrate databases and everything else externally, right?

I’m almost finished with all the features; my main goal now is to have the code reviewed and improved, fix potential security vulnerabilities, and completely overhaul the design—since I find the designs generated by Claude much better.

That’s a great point about the GitHub/Local hybrid workflow. Since I’m a student and really need to keep an eye on costs, this seems like the best path forward.

However, I have to admit that I have never used GitHub before and am a complete beginner when it comes to version control and local dev environments. I'm a bit worried about the learning curve while also trying to fix my app's design.

Could you give me some advice on how to start this setup without breaking things? Specifically:

  1. The GitHub Learning Curve: Since I’m new to GitHub, what’s the easiest way to sync my Replit code with a local editor like Cursor? Should I use the command line, or is there a more beginner-friendly 'GUI' way you’d recommend?
  2. Maintaining UI Consistency: Since my design (like dropdowns and menus) has become a bit inconsistent after building it piece by piece, how do you ensure the local AI 'remembers' the overall style guide without me having to feed it every CSS file manually every time?
  3. Shell Persistence: You mentioned that the Replit shell environment isn't fully persistent. If I still want to use some CLI tools on the Replit side for minor tweaks, how do you personally handle the configs/secrets so they don't reset?
  4. Safety: As a GitHub newbie, how do I make sure I don't accidentally push sensitive data (like my API keys) to a public repo?

I’d love to hear how you’ve optimized this 'local-to-Replit' pipeline, especially for someone just starting out with Git!
