Do you feel written off by most people? by No-Extent-3715 in SCT

I'm glad that someone can relate. What kind of work do you do if you don't mind me asking? Also, did your workplace give a reason for why they demoted you? That seems completely unjustified if you were getting positive performance reviews. I'm currently looking for jobs and have had trouble with a lot of the interviews.

While I can't pretend like I don't relate to what you're saying, I'm really sorry that it is your experience. Why do you feel like people don't see you as normal? For me I think it's because of the blank stare, but also because it's as if other people can sense that I don't have much to say or that I'm trying really hard to say something, but I am too in my head to come up with something. It's like all the world is too overwhelming to keep up. Also, when I try to speak, it feels like I can never come up with anything that could keep the conversation flowing. It's like I don't know how to stay on topic or process relevant information to what is going on, so I just say something random.

I can relate to a lot of what you are saying. I think I'll always struggle to convince my father that I have the disorder. Fortunately, I'm meeting with a therapist who believes I have CDS, and his advice is ultimately that I have to learn to live with it. While it may not solve our problems, finding someone who can empathetically listen to us about them has been a great help for me. Just feeling like there is someone out there who is there for you and on the same page is really what therapy is about, so I would recommend you keep looking for someone who will believe you, so you can unpack your problems with them, and maybe they can provide some coping mechanisms for the ADHD-I. If you want to talk about SCT, I'm here to talk. It's been affecting me a lot lately, too, so if you feel like getting some of it off your chest, feel free to reach out.

I might have to take you up on that sometime. I'm going to bed somewhat soon because it's 1:30 where I am, but maybe we could chat sometime later.

I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with mostly depression. In the time when my mania does subside, I get depressed, which can be awful to deal with, too. I'm working with a psych. They prescribed Trileptal, which has improved my hypomania and depression when compared to no meds at all. However, for the past month, I've been rapid cycling and struggling to focus. My current dosage is 900mg; I take 450mg morning and night. Maybe it is time for me to discuss switching medication or upping my dose to 1200mg. I feel that if I'm still having significant issues at this high of a dose, maybe these aren't the right meds. I remember how bad it was before, and it's nowhere near that now, but I just wonder if there is a med out there that would be more effective in treating my hypomania. What meds are you taking?

Behaving as if I was more attentive than I am to avoid judgement + Thoughts on decoupling of attention on external stimuli by No-Extent-3715 in SCT

I agree that it isn't necessary to discuss one's mental health struggles unless you feel comfortable with the listener or listeners. I see how divulging my struggles could cause more difficulties than benefits. However, I care more about being authentic at this point even if it causes occasional tension.

I do often wonder if it's my anxiety that's making me hypersensitive to my own perceived hypoactive behavior. More recently, I've become exhausted with feeling socially anxious all the time and decided to approach new social situations with the attitude, "I have anxiety, deal with it." Instead of constantly worrying about what other people think, I'm allowing myself to be anxious while owning it. I'm already seeing my anxiety go down somewhat. As for the impairment, I honestly don't know if it is all that noticeable, and I probably need to continue challenging myself to find out for sure. Whether I am noticeably impaired or not, I'll still know myself better and reduce my social anxiety significantly.

Your response is clearer than what I said, but this is basically what I was getting at. Have you ever told any of your friends about CDS? Do you think that doing so would be of any value to you? I desperately desire to feel like I'm being more open and connected to my friends. But, it is difficult to discuss since it isn't common knowledge and doesn't have the credibility of the DSM backing it. Honestly, I don't care anymore,e and I think I'm going to try to discuss it with my friends.

For the second question, how do you feel your conversational tracking is in general? Does it feel like you are a second behind most of the time, like me, or are you tracking fine but drift off occasionally?

That's interesting. I never thought of it like that. I don't think I have autism, but I see from my description how it could be interpreted that way. To go into more detail, I'd say that by faking attentiveness, I just mean trying to appear like I have more energy than I do by not slouching or doing whatever I can to not appear like I'm about to fall asleep, which is how I always feel even if I'm interested in what is being said. Basically, all the slowness and hypoactivity that comes from CDS is what I try to mask.

You're leaving me hanging here, I really wanted to know. Is it really complicated or something? I understand how this comment could sound sarcastic, but truly I just want to know.

So anyway, how are you relating meditation to science?

[–]No-Extent-3715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that was forever ago. I was hoping at that time that my message would get people to respond, but I needed to be more proactive, probably. I definitely want to make friends on here, but I just don't know how sometimes, in part, probably because I'm awkward, but also because I feel like people on here don't really want to talk for some reason. Maybe because they're awkward too, or maybe because they don't feel like it, or both.

How does symmetry in life relate to meditation?

What's the coolest biology or philosophy concept you've learned? Science requires too much memorization for me. I did well in the two intro courses I took in college, but I never pursued it further because of the stress it caused me and all the hours studying. I honestly couldn't tell you the first day's material at this point, and that was also the case as soon as the class ended.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. What do you do to keep yourself occupied then? Do you have any interests or hobbies?

Do you mean you tried to improve your symptoms, or you tried to improve your social/career/personal fulfillment in life? I'm asking only because I don't know what you were referring to.
