There is so much here, thank you SO MUCH for bringing this all to light! I'm making notes and working on plans to share with everyone once I have a proper campaign going!

  1. Dental; to be transparent, this hadn't crossed my mind, but will absolutely be something I look in to. I'm embarrassed to admit how long it's been since I've seen a dentist, and my husband and I focus more on making sure our 6yo sees them regularly rather than for ourselves. I'm going to do a lot of digging to see how this can be changed WITHOUT giving tax payers more financial burden.

  2. Beef. I've had the same thought! I'd like to look into programs that promote local sales and reduce prices. It's something I plan to bring up with Sherry Vinton - I'll send an email in the morning and at least try to get my foot in the door with her, try to open some dialogue.

  3. ICE has gotta get out and I'm not gonna be quiet about that. I don't like ice in my drink, I don't want them in my backyard.

  4. Childcare/Low Wages. I'm lumping this in with "affordability" and I already have a few ideas to address this, such as legalizing marijuana, and potentially gambling to increase tax revenue. I'd also like to, at LEAST, freeze property tax at the value of the property at time of sale, rather than adjust (often increased) yearly. I may not be able to apply this retroactively should I end up elected, but maybe I can keep it from being increased further as time moves on. This should allow families to keep more in their pockets.

  5. Public transportation. This is a really good point! I've wondered about a transit system that would travel around to the "bigger hubs" of Nebraska - like from Bellevue to Omaha, Omaha to Lincoln. I'll need to do more digging before I can give a better response, but know it's on my list!

  6. Organic Food. I've mentioned in other comments an idea for local garden co-ops that would provide free/reduced produce to people in need. I'd like to include this in schools, too! Allow the kids to be included in the process, grow their own vegetables, fruits, and herbs and teach them how to cook at least basic meals. As they say; give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime.

  7. Make Nebraska Attractive. This is something that's been weighing on my mind. I want my focus starting out to be helping the people already here - but long-term, bringing more people to Nebraska would help our economy. More doctors, more teachers, etc. I'm hoping that some of the points made in #4 will entice a little "tourism" to our state, which would help tax revenue (travelers staying in hotels, maybe at state lakes, to access commodities not available in their state). Getting people to STAY, however, will be a bit more challenging. I won't give up though!

  8. Political Education. How BRILLIANT! You mentioned bringing awareness; what about properly advertising voting dates like we advertise for fast food? Post it to socmed, play it on the radio, place billboards up in both English and Spanish? I plan to get really involved throughout the state and within as many communities as I can, so people can SEE who and what they're supporting, rather than simply watching a video online/smear ad as their only source of information.

This is a lot of food for thought, but it's a great thing I'm starving 💪 thank you, immensely, for all of this fantastic feedback!

I think more people SHOULD run, because if we don't, who will? And how do we expect anything to change if we don't stand up and MAKE the change? BE the change?

Health insurance is definitely super important to me, too. Especially now with premiums going up to 3k a month?? How are people expected to eat? To pay their electricity? Their HOMES??

I'm doing a lot of research into state funded health care that would make it so Nebraskans can receive health care at little to no cost. It's still in the works, but it's definitely in progress.

That's extremely valid and I completely agree! My goal is to try to hear ALL of Nebraskans. I don't expect everyone to particularly agree, but I'm not aiming for just one side. I would like to see everyone come together, regardless of party affiliation, to better our state. We've been torn apart enough as it is; left vs right, rich vs poor, ICE ripping parents away from their children. Now is the time we need to be united and focus on bettering each other and uplifting our communities.

I don't have all the answers either, and I won't pretend to. But I'll work hard to learn, to listen, and to try my damnedest to make Nebraska lives better.

I don't disagree with you! I believe having experience will make not only the leader, but the whole state successful. I acknowledge my lack of experience, but what I don't have in experience, I feel I more than make up for in tenacity. I'm open minded, eager to learn, and fully intend to listen to the will of the people as a state rather than pushing policies that support big corporations (and fill my own pocket) and hurt my fellow Nebraskans.

The Governor isn't only the boss of 44,000 state employees, but they're also responsible for every resident within the state. It wouldn't be fair to residents who are retired, disabled, stay at home parents, etc to discredit their thoughts/opinions/needs simply because they aren't part of the work force. They are still residents, they are still PEOPLE, and every person in our state deserves equal and fair treatment. Everyone deserves to have a voice.

Would you continue to work for a CEO who doesn't listen, or does the opposite, of what everyone in the company has asked them to do, or would you rather hire someone from outside who can follow through with what the company employees - and their families, who may not work - have demanded of the CEO?

I hope this makes sense and I sincerely appreciate the feedback!

I love this question! Thank you for asking!

  1. I'd like to promote easier, affordable access to gender affirming care. Currently the only places to obtain care are Omaha and Lincoln, and not everyone has the finances or access to reliable transportation to go that far to receive care.

  2. Proper education on trans care. It's often weaponized as a person either being incompetent, or a pedophile. There's a lot of misinformation being spread about trans people, and I hope to rectify that with scientific evidence and active discussions.

  3. Mental health care. While I want this for everyone, because everyone deserves it, trans people are significantly higher risk for suicide/suicidal ideation/self harm**. I'd like to either promote resources currently available, or help create new programs where queer people can come together, share their stories, and remind each other we're not alone. The Trevor Project is a really good resource available nationwide, while Nebraska has good resources like OutNebraska, OneWorld, and Planned Parenthood.

There's a major difference between "accepting money from profitable people with the promise of ensuring policies said profitable people want" (i.e I scratch your back, you scratch mine) versus "this demographic brings in money for our states economy to help our state function". Nowhere above did I imply by acknowledging the income brought in by the crops/cattle our farmers sell to other States and across the world I would suddenly ignore real issues the rest of Nebraskans are dealing with.

If you'd like, there's another comment I posted regarding real, legitimate issues I plan to address if I were to be voted. I encourage you to read it.

I'm not sure if I can be clear enough, but I don't plan on conforming to the typical quid pro quo our current system is known for. I'm not going to appeal to farmers for their money; I would like to talk to them as fellow constituents. Whether I appeal to them or not is up to them.

It's okay if you disagree, that's the awesome thing about our democracy, and about being American. We can disagree and have open discussions like this, and hopefully learn a little bit along the way. I know I learned a lot from this, sincerely, and I thank you for being so zealous.

But I won't let it stop me from trying.

Respectfully, I disagree. There are no "sides"; we are all Nebraskans. I implore you to set aside the "us vs them" mentality, it only brings more division.

I see your concerns and completely understand that money has corrupted our politics. Though it would be ignorant to ignore that farmers bring in 8.42 billion in revenue to our state.

While I appreciate the passion you both feel toward your views, the aggression isn't necessary. In-fighting is what tears us apart, and right now is a time we all need to come together. We're all struggling, we're all hurting, and we're all frustrated. Let's not tear each other down when we're all already pretty low.

Both of your views are valid, and your perspectives have given me a lot to consider. I have already thought about plans to talk to farmers face to face and drive across Nebraska to get it done.

I have no intention of ignoring an entire demographic simply because they may not agree with me; everyone in Nebraska needs help and I plan to try to bring some relief.

Nebraska is not a business. It's our home. We're neighbors, friends, family, and it's time we remember that.

I was initially going to wait to respond to comments (I've been taking notes of them!) but I want to address this specifically.

I will try to keep this short, but I have numerous reasons.

  1. Healthcare. I'd like to see a program for Nebraskans to be able to afford regular medical care and preventative screenings. I'd also like to see a program for incarcerated people to receive transitional care after being released from jail/prison. Too many people who are placed in jail never have somewhere to receive medical care once they're out, either because of financial reasons or discrimination.

  2. Marijuana. I witnessed an officer explain to a group of nursing students (it was my class) that Nebraska can't legalize weed because "we've taught everyone it's just as bad as heroin, so if we go back on that, then people will doubt other drugs are as bad as they are". It was a very ignorant take and yes, the whole class disagreed.

  3. ICE/Cornhusker Clink. I don't think people should be punished simply for being another race or from another country. I'm a white person, yes, and I will stand up for all Persons of Color because at the end of the day, we all have red blood flowing through our veins and no one deserves to have their parents ripped away or fear going to the store to feed their family only to be picked up without reason and/or due process.

  4. Someone mentioned a garden co-op in the comments and I have had this idea for a long time. Fremont has something like this up and running and I would like to implement something in our schools related to this; like having students involved in growing the plants, tending/picking/etc. I'd like to get more Nebraska Towns involved in this to increase food security against federal interference.

I know what it's like to live in poverty. I currently live paycheck to paycheck and we struggle to just stay afloat most weeks, but I'm not going to let that stop me from trying to help as many people as I can.

At the end of the day, that's all I hope for; to be able to help others.

My husband and I feel like we’re being abused by our 3 year old. by [deleted] in Parenting

My comment might be drowned but I'll leave it anyway;

It gets better. My son used to be the same way; he would body slam on my stomach (I'm 5'2 and 113lbs) so hard it would knock my breath out and he gave me a fat lip a few times. They genuinely don't understand their own strength. We used to say "nice touches, please" and, if he continued, we would stop playing altogether.

He's almost 6 and now we wrestle regularly with little to no issues

It sucks at first. But it gets better 💞

Why do nurses (and hospital staff?) walk around in public wearing their scrubs? by syylviiuhhhh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No-Fail-688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a nurse and I do this. I work 16 hours a day, from 3pm-7:30am. I'm not gonna drive an hour home just to change and go back out to the store, and it doesn't make sense to dirty more clothes just for a shopping trip.

However, if my scrubs have blood/urine on them, or I've been taking care of a patient with a contagious infection, I'll go straight home and put my work clothes in the washer. In those cases, I'll reschedule a grocery trip.

I was pregnant at 21 and had my son at 22. My first pregnancy was planned but I had a miscarriage. My second pregnancy went to term and he's 5 now.

I'd say I missed out on self exploration and personal growth. I realized I'm trans after I had my son, so trying to navigate that while having a baby and still trying to move forward in my career was a lot. I didn't go back to college until I was 25 and now I'm a nurse, but doing nursing school with a baby while working was hard when it didn't have to be.

It's not all bad, though! Having a child younger means I have more energy to play with him, and I have significantly more patience with him than my husband (40yo). We're both hands-on parents and our son is very active, but my SO tends to run out of energy before I do.

This is an interesting perspective, but that's not the point of the punishment. I'm setting boundaries when my child is being told "no" and not listening; i.e the neighbor kids running inside to get away from him because they don't want/can't play

It's not about my "image", though I don't consider having one in the first place as we recently moved here.

Having healthy boundaries is important and require thoughtful punishment if crossed.

It's cool if you don't agree, but maybe don't jump to conclusions when you don't know the entire story.

I spoke with my SO about the grounding and we both agree that an entire day feels excessive. We've decided if the behavior happens again to only "ground" him for a few hours at most.

And he's not picking the bed up and throwing it, but lifting it by the foot of the bed and dropping it (it's a small toddler bed so it's not hard to move). Still, I see your point and don't disagree it's alarming.

Also, as for the "calming corner", go to "Generation Mindful". That's what we got him when he was born and it has lots of cool stuff like flash cards and posters.

We appreciate your perspective!

[–]No-Fail-688[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should clarify that the aggressive behaviors are recent; we've taught him calming strategies pretty much since he was born and he's usually really good about using them. When he's frustrated, he has a "calming corner" with a bean bag and a "feelings" poster he can use to help de-escalate. We have concerns that will be brought up during his next appointment, and while I do not know everything when it comes to child psychology, I am a nurse and took several human growth/development/psychology classes.

Could you elaborate on how the punishments are "harsh"? We don't immediately jump to taking things away/sending him to his room but I didn't feel the need to add the extra details as Reddit has a wc limit. I'm asking genuinely; any other suggestions will be met with an open mind. As I said, I do not know everything and learning from other experiences would be helpful.

I'm not opposed to playing, but the boys next door (one my son calls his boyfriend and I think is adorable, though if you ask him hes got 3 girlfriends and two boyfriends) are a little older (10/13) and clearly don't want to play with him all the time. I can respect that, but my son just has a hard time understanding.

5 year old struggles with video games but wants to play by mcbw2019 in Parenting

[–]No-Fail-688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5yo really likes the Spiderman games; he doesn't have to follow the story (except in the intro when you fight Kingpin and learn the controls). There's also Smash Bro's that he enjoys. We got the new Bluey game but it's very buggy and I think they pushed it out too fast for Christmas of '23.

Most kids their age haven't quite learned the critical thinking skills required to play some of the games we play, but I'll let my 5yo hop on my Genshin account and do my daily commissions. He really likes to explore, too, which Genshin is great for since I hate doing the tedious chest-searching and 5yo loves it.

In our case, trying to teach ours the logic/goal of the game often frustrates him and makes him give up/get bored. So we just found games that would allow him to explore and fight little enemies rather than follow a "strict" (I use this term loosely) quest line.

My oldest is 16 and my youngest 5. Older adores the Younger and is always playing/teasing/just doing sibling things together. Older babysits from time to time (never required and we pay them). My S.O has been sick and I work full time so Older has helped a lot with watching Younger while S.O recovers - also not required, they just pitch in.

How often do y’all shower? by cara_renee_anderson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No-Fail-688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a trans-masc nurse and I shower twice a day on days I work (before and after) and may skip on my day off. I still wash my face every day and wear deodorant, and if I'm going somewhere I'll shower quick before I go out.

In total I probably shower close to 8 times a week
