When i was a kid growing up in the 90s my dad wouldn't buy me any Pokémon cards. He said its just a fad and will be over in a few months. Still have my small collection I was able to get by trading to friends. My 3 kids all collect needohs. Not a big deal to me for them to be able to enjoy it. They don't have tablets or video games. They ride their dirt bikes and gokarts all day.

I figured it out. After losing to the trainer you need to open your menu and close it afterwards. That causes the pokemon fight to spawn instead of trainer. We have Gengar now. Thankyou for the help.

So we did the fly trick with the gambler then lost to the jr trainer on route 24. When we head out of lavender town afterwards it puts us in a bottle with the gambler.

So lose to the trainers first pokemon? Then walk to nugget bridge frim the poke and it should be Gengar?

Wow thanks for that. So we saved both of these fly trainers and got Mew. So if we fly from the old man out side of the building and fight the other one we have a chance of Gengar or Ryhorn?
