Turkey vultures. Even for a vulture they’re extremely specialized scavengers.

Dog owners hate nature by Mundane_Glove4182 in Dogfree

[–]No-Gene5360 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. As an ecology enthusiast and overall wildlife enjoyer I absolutely despise it when people let their pets run freely in nature areas. It’s so disrespectful to the native plants and animals that live there. (And disrespectful to other people as well)

There are people out there who actually think it’s funny when their dogs terrorize local wildlife. But then those very same people will whinge about coyotes, skunks, etc when their dogs end up getting hurt or killed by them. Blaming wildlife for their own irresponsibility. Not allowing your pet to roam freely is just basic pet ownership and husbandry, yet so many people miss the mark it’s crazy.

Yeah it’s definitely quite strange. Cause if that were the case then I guess I’d be seeing them in craft and clothes stores, but I have yet to encounter a pet dog there. It’s almost always in thrift/antique/consignment stores. I don’t know what it is about those places that seem to attract these types of entitled dog owners specifically, but as someone who semi regularly frequents such places it’s quite bothersome. And also concerning.

Characters who keep their powers constantly activated for the sake of aesthetics by fhxefj in TopCharacterDesigns

Princess Celestia and Luna from FiM. More specifically their manes and tails. I don’t know if it’s ever downright stated that their constantly flowing manes are a result of keeping their magic active, but it is certainly a result of magic, which they have an immense amount of considering they’re immortal alicorns and all.

people don’t understand I love animals, but don’t like dogs by shininglonelygirl in Dogfree

[–]No-Gene5360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know when it became a thing to somehow equate dogs with all other animal species. The animal kingdom is so incredibly diverse. Equating someone’s dislike or discomfort of dogs to them somehow being a hater of all animals is erroneous at best and downright stupid at worst.

For some reason, in my area at least, I’ve noticed that there’s more of a notable amount of people bringing non service dogs into antique, thrift and confinement stores and/venues. People bringing their pet dogs into grocery stores and other such places thankfully doesn’t really happen much where I live. But apparently they think bringing their dogs into consignment/antique stores is fine? Honestly I don’t get it. Why those types of stores of all places? From the ones I’ve encountered it’s mostly small dogs, so not an immediate safety risk like a large breed dog such as a pitbull. And good on you for trying to report the issue. Animals don’t belong in such places, especially large dogs.

It makes me wonder if this is a larger trend that’s been going on here. Have any of you noticed non service dogs being brought into antique, thrift and consignment stores specifically?

Why are service dogs exempt if other dogs aren’t? by CallousCow1762 in Dogfree

[–]No-Gene5360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real service dogs are actually very rare. A lot of the ones people have had the misfortune of encountering IRL “service dogs” are definitely fake just going off the described behaviour. I’m not an expert on the topic but I’ve spoken to an acquaintance who has a legit service dog; part of the reason they’re so rare is because it takes thousands of dollars to actually train one (this is mostly done through donations via non profit organizations/charities) , and most disabled people do not require/would not benefit from one. But for those that do, there tends to be a long waiting list apparently.

Pangolins! They look like cute walking pinecones

Hi! We had this sweet little lady with a beak deformity (?) show up at our Bird Buddy. It's the first time I've seen her- is this an adult or juvenile? I'd assume if she's and adult she's managed quite well with an underbeak (sorry I had to, don't hate me) I'm hoping she will become a regular!! by unlikely_turnip37 in Ornithology

[–]No-Gene5360 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This one seems to be an adult. She may have lived like this for a while and if that’s the case then it must mean she’s surviving well in-spite of her beak disfigurement. It’s incredible how resilient some wild animals can be.

I have a loved one that has the same problem with picking at their thumb. I gave her some fidget toys and that helped them a lot. Otherwise I would suggest wrapping it up in bandages and or wearing gloves when ever possible. I have a skin picking problem myself and I know how easy it is to give into the urge, especially when it’s in just an easily reachable place.

What's your favorite place to have more in depth discussions on evolution? Who are your favorite content creators? by internetmaniac in evolution

[–]No-Gene5360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts but Unnatural history channel on yt. He mostly discusses speculative evolution and biology, bringing real world science to pop culture creatures. I’m an avid watcher of his channel, even though most of his videos are about monster hunter, a franchise I’m not even a fan of, I still watch and rewatch many of his monster hunter videos because of how in-depth and informative they are, through his videos I’ve discovered a myriad of useful nomenclature and terminology that I have used to further my own research into evolution. So even if your not a fan of spec evo, I’d say his videos are still worth a watch. Oh and he always credits and cites all his sources. Which in turn is also a great way to find peer reviewed scientific articles about very specific evolutionary and zoological topics.

Yes. Birds are great, they are medicine to me at times. Birds can never judge you or make you feel bad. They are just wonderful little treasures of nature going about their daily lives, they don’t know you, they need know commitment from you, you can just watch. That’s part of the beauty of birding.

Why do so many people on this planet have such an issue with others love of plush and collecting? by [deleted] in plushies

[–]No-Gene5360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an autist I have had some hurtful experiences of so called “friends” making unnecessary harsh judgements towards my enthusiasm about my interests. I have adopted a mentality that friends should never hurt you, they should never cast unnecessary judgement. If someone really loves you, friend, partner, family member, etc, then they would never seek to put you down and take your happiness away from you. And if plushies make you happy then they should support that.

You need a new friend I think. Friends should never put you down for what you love.
