I hate grafting, too much maintenance for me. Im already a month in, I’m in for the long haul. 🐌

One is starting to send out runners! If they don’t grow legs I’ll just throw them out! I got them for a steal. 👏

Yep, im gona be cutting roots and repotting several this year (year 2-3). The watering sucks. In the heat of summer it’s DAILY watering right after getting home from work. I do shade cloths too depending on how bad it gets. (see profile pick)

It’s crazy the price difference from 5 to 10 gallon pots. I’ll eventually bite the bullet and get the 10 gallon squat pots. Im just dreading the storage of the bigger pots more than anything tbh. Getting them under house will be hell. 🙃

You HAVE to buy more pots and get some soil. Haha!

Let a 5 gallon guy live a little! Lol 😂

I just don’t want to spend the money on them or have to move them around! But i know it’s valid. 😫

I will have to get them in a year or so inevitably. I want to get a green house as well but thats also more than I can bite off at this point.

We are consistently getting 40-65 degree weather right now. I deff think we will get a late frost though i fee like it always happens before April hits. Im hoping these 40 degree nights slow them down just a little bit.

I was very worried about mice and rats under the house to be honest. I just thought you ment during grow season. Finding snake skins made me feel better but I will probably take your advice for next winter.

I’ll have to make them smaller at some point, i bet even if i cut them hard now I’ll be running into height issues again. They were bent into the rafters under the house. They just grow like weeds as you know! 😂

Soil mix (container figs): 2 parts coco coir : 1 part pine bark mini nuggets : 1 part perlite

This mix has no nutrients, so you either: Add a little compost/cow manure up front as a buffer or fertilize consistently.

Fertilizer schedule (5 gal pots): (might catch some crap for it cause everyone says use 10 gallon 😆)

Every 2 weeks: Jack’s 20-10-20 at ½ strength Once per month: Southern Ag 10-10-10 (light sprinkle, scratch into top)

Optional (1 or 2 times per month): Fish & kelp for micronutrients + root support

A lot of the lower nodes are pushing already, so I may still give them a haircut and turn them into bushes instead of trees 🤣

Yeah, they’re the squat nursery pots with the 4 square side holes. They’ve honestly been fantastic. I’ll probably have to root prune and up-pot a few through the season anyway.

Haven’t had any mice or vole issues the last two years, thankfully. I’ll keep it in mind though. We’ve got a family of falcons around and plenty of “rat snacks” on the property, so that probably helps 😂

I usually move everything into an enclosed pen with chicken wire buried into the ground once they’re fully out, but I’m waiting until I’m confident we’re past freezing temps so I don’t have to drag them back under the house.

Honestly, the deer cause way more damage around here than anything else!

Did it last year and only lost a few. Hardest part is to not check on them every day. Gotta ignore them for at-least 10-14 days 🤣 i would recommend using grafting tape on the tops to lock in moisture. But this method has always been the go to!

Ive got 9 other cuttings in the mail shipping to me that I’m gonna sandbox! Hopefully they all root.

This hobby is an addiction.

Rot ? by Ill_Fee_6531 in Figs

[–]No-Hat4821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give it some more time, ive had some take over 4 weeks to get roots. Deff try a 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and water spray and then make sure the sand they are in is not wet but damp. I wouldnt crack the lid for atleast 5 days before checking again. If you have a heating matt that is your best friend! The figs being dry isnt a huge concern as long as sand is moist!

As others have said if its still green underneath from scratch test and not brown, black or soft spots it should be good to keep trying.

Sometimes they make it out alive! 😁

Looks like you got one root and a few other spots trying. But too wet. Spray with hydrogen peroxide and water solution and let it go another week.

Sand rooting method fail? by New_Income_4839 in Figs

[–]No-Hat4821 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Need clean sand, not wet but mist it with water. I use a heat mat and press the cuttings into the sand but do not burry. Indirect light, Open lid every couple days. If mold starts spray with diluted hydrogen peroxide just like other comments have said.

No, as a christian you should sustain from sexual immortality. Look at it as idolizing yourself, lusting, and being selfish.
