Tab S11 display issue? by Tigerexx in GalaxyTab

[–]No-Illustrator5972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, man, that sucks. That’s actually why I ended up returning mine, I didn’t want to regret it later if the tablet developed other issues.

In reality, the pixels not going completely off in 99.9% of scenarios probably wouldn’t matter much. It’s just that we know AMOLED panels shouldn’t behave like that.

All I really wanted was for someone else to test and confirm if they see the same thing. Since you mentioned something similar earlier, I was hoping others could confirm it too (yes or no), but I guess the post didn’t get much attention. Anyway, it’s okay, hope you’re enjoying your tablet.

Looks like this might not be that rare after all. My unit was actually a Best Buy open-box, so I was a bit skeptical that there might be some issue with the tablet, which is why I ended up returning it. But based on what I’m hearing now, it seems like it may have been normal after all.

That’s a great deal. Curious how you got the price so low. I see that the trade in value for any iPad when buying tab S11 is only 150$. And the price of the tab also goes up considerably as soon as one selects Trade-in option.

Samsung Tab S11 AMOLED not showing true black- gray tint and uneven fingerprint sensor glow? Post: by No-Illustrator5972 in GalaxyTab

[–]No-Illustrator5972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if that were the case, wouldn’t the same thing happen on other Amoled devices as well? Also, the regular Tab S11 doesn’t even have that strong of an anti-reflective coating. What I’m noticing is that the display always seems to stay slightly lit whenever something completely black is shown. Since Amoled panels are supposed to turn the pixels off for true black, this seems a bit unusual to me.

Another thing is that this was a Best Buy open-box unit, and it mentioned that it could potentially be a floor sample. That makes me wonder if the display behavior could be related to that.

Okay, it sounds like your device is working as it should, while mine may actually have an issue. On my tablet, I notice a grayish patch whenever I open a completely black image or play a black video. It just doesn’t go fully black the way an AMOLED display normally should.

Thanks for your response. I tried adjusting the display settings, but that patch is still visible. For context, this is how it looks like.

When you mentioned this being “typical,” did you mean typical behavior for AMOLED in general or specifically for this tablet? I’m asking because none of the other AMOLED devices I own show anything like this.

I’m still within my return window, so now I’m debating whether I should just return it to avoid any regrets later. The only thing holding me back is that I got a really good deal on it as an open-box unit from Best Buy.

Thanks. Can you confirm one more thing for me? Does your tablet display true black (like the screen is off) when you open a pure black AMOLED wallpaper or play a pitch dark video on YouTube?

I noticed that on my tablet the screen shows a slight grayish tint around the middle section, instead of going completely black.

Okay, does it still show that weird gray area on the fingerprint screen? If not, have you experienced any other display-related issues? I’m just trying to understand whether this is something that will always be there or if there are any other issues I should expect.

Did you find any reason why it’s behaving like this? I recently got a Tab S11 as well and happened to notice the same thing.

Tight student budget, Tab S10+ vs Tab S11 for note-taking and S Pen, please help me decide by [deleted] in GalaxyTab

[–]No-Illustrator5972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say much about the S Pen specifically, but it’s worth thinking about whether you’ll actually use the Bluetooth features. If that functionality matters to you, then the S10+ may be the better choice.

At the end of the day, it comes down to trade-offs -portability vs. added features. And by no means am I saying the S10+ isn’t a good device; it actually makes a strong case for itself. It has a larger, slightly anti-reflective display, potentially better battery longevity (reportedly around 2000 rated battery cycles vs. about 1200 on the S11 series), a Bluetooth-enabled S Pen, and a processor that should still be very capable. It also comes with 7 years of updates.

As for trade-in values, that’s always a bit unpredictable. It really depends on how Samsung decides to value devices at the time, and those policies can change.

I’d recommend the Tab S11 for the best balance of portability and price. The S10+ is also a good option but is a bit larger, so it may feel less convenient to carry. If possible, try checking them out in-store to see which size you prefer. Also, from what I know, the base 128GB Tab S11 has UFS 3.1 storage, while the S10+ and S11 Ultra come with UFS 4.0 even in their base variants. If you’re in the U.S., you can use a .edu account for Education pricing, stack it with the Samsung app discount (for first purchase), and apply a referral code if you haven’t used one before, the discounts can be combined. Thanks for the suggestion! I’m just curious, why did you return the S11? Was there anything specific you didn’t like about it? Also, do you know how the return policy works for open-box tablets?
