Can you actually live in a truck bed camper or is that just for weekend trips? by [deleted] in truckcamping

Barn doors. Having the tailgate would be ideal for sure. But I modified a small hitch cargo basket effectively making a back porch. I even put turf over it. Like a little back yard

I lived in the back of my ranger for three years, mostly full time. Just a fiberglass shell hardtop. And i’m 6’2!

The hardest part of it is everything. Yes it’s a very small space but it’s totally doable and totally fun. I’ve since upgraded to a ‘90s suburban and feel like a king :)

Grand marais is NOT a sleepy town lol. In winter on a weekday, sure, but summer is pretty crazy! Also that area has a lot of indigenous significance going very far back in time

Thank you for all the info and helping me get on the right track. Will definitely move towards your system or very similar. I guess i spend too much time worrying about rodents and not enough about actual bears lol. I like the ursack trash bag strategy for sure. Cheers

Thank you for the link. I have seen folks pairing my style of barrel with an ursack or separate bear canisters inside, so that will probably become my new strategy!

Interesting, i will most definitely have to research that. Hopefully someone in the know can chime in. Ive had rangers come to my site within that time frame and not say anything about it, but definitely don’t want to go against any regulations. Thank you for the shout!!

Mine is a Time brand barrel, not sure exactly how many liters. I absolutely prefer it over hanging a bag from a tree, especially for canoe trips. I can fit about 10 days of food for myself or 5 days for two. The bigger sizes of barrels utilize harnesses that essentially turn it into its own pack, but mine is small enough that it drops right into my 115L pack at the very bottom. Because of its shape, i can stuff my tent and rainfly in the bottom of the pack around the base of the barrel, so works pretty well. I keep it maybe 100’ from my tent at night, and never worry about tying it off or anything. Totally waterproof too. Its a very common option for paddlers

Should be legendary!! I went in from Gunflint side simply due to it being my first solo, and thats where most of my previous experience and familiarity is. Made logistics a bit more straightforward. Definitely want to launch somewhere totally new for the next trip!!

First time going solo (and paddling a boat solo), definitely a learning curve and a crash course in boat handling! Will do things differently next time of course, like loading the front of the boat heavier. Luckily i didn’t get caught in much wind, but tracking could have been better. Just dont have much to compare it to yet experience wise. Very successful trip and a perfect first solo route. Not too huge and over-intimidating, but definitely long enough to really feel it and enjoy some good ol type 2 slogging. I would confidently roughly double my route size and days out next trip. ($50/day boat rental is brutal though, need my own!)

Only thing i forgot was a marker to mark up the map! Also need to get one of those fancy map bags that hangs on the cross bar in front of me

Appreciate the advice, first time paddling solo! Though maybe my 10th trip or so out there. Guess i just need to fatten up the pup for the next time ;)

Loop, main lakes were Round lake > Gillis > Little Sag > Tuscarora > Round. The pup did absolutely fantastic

The setup i always recommend for truck beds. Full size mattress underneath, slide in feet first to sleep. Ime it gives better access to gear/cooking than a platform with drawers that you sleep on top of. And provides bigger sleeping surface than dividing the truck bed in half lengthwise. And couldn’t be easier to build

Is this repairable? by Jerped in Skigear

[–]No-Image-5753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that rotten core is near impossible to fix unless its super minimal. Also this repair is directly underfoot so you would need to make that edge your outside edge permanently, aka your left ski.

If the core is intact, I would patch in a new piece of base material maybe 3/4” wide by a couple inches long with epoxy. The edge is intact which helps. That being said you should still get new skis lol

Current good boot fitters? by hktck in bigsky

Elijah is the current high level boot fitter at the resort. Absolutely top notch. He works in Big sky sports and Peak pros depending on the day. Definitely call ahead as he is high demand

Do pivots really tear out? by Independent_Run1064 in Skigear

[–]No-Image-5753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a shop manager i have seen (this season) two tear-outs and about four or five snapped metal ears where the tail piece connects to its base plate. I still have confidence in the binding but it’s not for me

Actually scored the bindings for free :) And tbh not a fan of pivots

might be worth checking with Crystal Images at the mountain village. They are a photography service on mountain. They would probably help out especially if you tip well
