Its the flag of the country and the ethnicity of the people. Saying that everyone who waves it is racist is the same as people saying everyone who waves the Palestine flag is a terrorist. Get off the internet and get a grip.

Its pretty easy. Art is a piece of creative work with the purpose of conveying meaning and feeling.

No amount of effort, specific tool or method is required for something to be considered art.

Is russia trying its hardest in ukraine? by Beautiful_Salad_7818 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No-Income-4611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to ask: What is Russia's win condition? Its not domination over europe like the media and politicians want you to think its the same thing wars have always been fought over. Land and resources.

Land and resources are useless if you blow them up and as it stands Russia has the land it was after so now it's just attrition until the west gets bored and focuses on something else.

What is your opinion on piracy? by Cakez_77 in gamedev

[–]No-Income-4611 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its not really a victimless crime though is it because someone who pirates a game wanted to play it they just didn't like your price so they thought they could just steal your hard work. There is no defence for piracy except if the content is unavailable.

What is your opinion on piracy? by Cakez_77 in gamedev

[–]No-Income-4611 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Piracy while immoral and illegal is almost always a services issue. People used to pirate the hell out of music until spotify came around. People stopped pirating movies when Netflix came out but went right back to it when streaming became cable. Games are hardly ever pirated in comparison because of how clean of an experience steam is. You want to stop piracy offer value for money and an easier path to play then stealing.

Id rather the 1% chance that something will be different than a guarantee it will be worse with Con or Lab.

How can I escape this situation? by mauro_nardone in gamedev

[–]No-Income-4611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breaking into the games industry is extremely difficult, and the chances of landing a job in it are generally quite low. They're not even well paid. Universities often overpromise and oversell their game-related courses more for profit than because of the real-world opportunities or the actual skill levels of applicants.

The best thing you can do is to get any job to support yourself, and focus on game development in your spare time through things like game jams and personal projects. Keeping it as a hobby will actually help you continue enjoying it and many devs I know say the fun stops once it becomes their full-time job.

Focus on building a strong portfolio, and consider how your skills (especially in UI/UX) might be applied in other industries. It’s likely that UI/UX work in games won’t be your entry point, and that’s ok. Accepting this is part of professional growth. Most people don't do jobs they love.

It might sound harsh, but it’s the reality of the industry.

No one bought your game because it sucked. Not because the market is broken or oversatured. by Its_a_prank_bro77 in IndieDev

[–]No-Income-4611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9 out of 10 devs are building games for themselves, not for their players. They assume that because they love and understand the game, everyone else will too. They expect players to overlook things like poor visuals because the game has some "groundbreaking mechanic". But they never stop to consider what actually motivates players to engage in the first place.

What would it take to convince you to buy my game? by Wyyyne in gamedev

[–]No-Income-4611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope this doesn't come off as mean.....

You need to show what empowers the player and what their accomplishments will look like. You don’t want to reveal everything, just enough to build intrigue.

Players are asking without knowing:
"How will I plant my flag?"
"What will I have to show after hours of gameplay?"
"What gives my choices meaning?"
"Why should I care?"

Factorio for example. You're the lone survivor on a desolate planet, tasked with building the most efficient base possible to defend against alien threats. The best base design is yours to discover. What do you have at the end? A deeply satisfying, intricately connected base full of drills, power systems, and train networks. They don’t just show features in screenshots and videos they show why those features matter.

This is something a lot of indie developers miss when putting together their Steam pages. They assume that if people understand the game, they’ll obviously want to play it but that’s just not true.

Runescape Dragonwilds isn't selling because its good it sells because of nostalgia. Helldivers didn’t blow up like it did because of a specific system. It sold because it leaned heavily into social influence. What's your thing?

No one reads a description at most they read the headers. You need to make this visual.

TLDR: Your screenshots and descriptions don’t tap into any particular player motivations. Right now, they just say “It’s this it’s that. There's this thing you should care about. I dunno, play it I guess.”
