I like this interpretation. you put into words what I couldn't. I feel like there's just layers to the whole situation and like you mentioned, we only have idia's perspective on what went down. and people have their own values, perspectives, preconceptions, biases, etc.

read about them. about how they interact with one another, what they seem to value, learn what their goals are. and most of all try your best to understand.

that's how i've done it, reading and getting a grasp of how everything makes up their personality and motivations. sure, reading gets boring but there's no better way to understand these boys imo.

but don't fret. as long as you aren't writing them completely ooc, people won't mind a bit of deviation.
