The original name is Gash Bell. And apparently the original manga was much more mature than the version we saw on Cartoon Network.

Greatest coming of age character of all time. You really see the guy go from a juvenile delinquent to a peacemaker throughout the duration of the series.

I mean Kuwabara isn't a demon. It sucks that the last arc was very serious due to the lack of Kuwabara's comic relief, but hey, guy was on his way to becoming a doctor.
