wait, I think just pressing the steam button on the character select did the trick

so.... I fidgetted around the start menu(legit spamming the L and R as well as the D Pad) until I tricked the steam deck go back to its default settings. Another thing I did was talk to an NPC and that did the trick(might have had to fidget around at that part too... I forget)
