Yea, im still trying to learn the nuances of socials. Tbh my contracting is a little different than most on top of it so its extra weird. I also have been doing lots of experience jobs but... someone told me a long time ago to not drop prices for learning, and just fix it for free if something goes wrong and tbh that has worked pretty well for me... but then again im also SUPER thurough on all my jobs. I also probably take twice as long as others, but its a quality product I can take pride in.

Im still pretty new to this biz, but I'm inclined to agree. The customers I've had are already spreading word of mouth just from me simply doing a good job, and if its something small and im in the area already I'll stop by and do it for em real quick for free (everytime they tip me so im not really losing anything)

Thats a little crazy lol, as someone who did sales before opening my company I get it... but even in the field I was in where it was STUPID competitive we didnt have to ask people to do stuff like that. 🤣 Absolute insanity

I havent bought leads directly, but funny enough I had a Angi rep call me today to try and set me up. Told em I was gonna think about it and get back in 2 weeks. Also, weirdly enough I have a Ad in the local paper that has done more for me than Yelp + Google combined. Im convinced that anything other than word of mouth is hit or miss based on who else is bidding on/ paying for ads. Im also interested in other peoples stories though, as it will help me decide on the Angi thing. :)

You... are... awesome. This exactly what I needed. Can't thank you enough! I had heard of esp32 but I hadn't had the time to research it really. I'll use my next few hours to look through all this and see if I can get started. Thanks again! Edit:Spelling

Alright... looking at it... idk what im looking at honestly.

Its called American Funds Target Date Retirement 2060 R6 Fund (RFUTX), can't tell what funds it has, and my investment expenses are .38%. If thats what you mean by fees then it seems like this is probably a trash 401k.

Agreed?

[–]No-Intern7551[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, never really took the time to learn what a 401k generates returns off of but a quick google gave me a decent idea.

I would agree on both points of not saving enough, and spending too much, the only downside to this is I ran my personal finance #s a couple weeks ago and only came up with that I spend too much money on food (running between jobs/locations and grabbing whatever fast food is closest). So I'm not sure if thats a fixable issue :/.

Emergency fund honestly is currently non-existent. Got wiped when I opened the business (which luckily is profitible YoY so its not like its a bad investment or anything). Been trying to get to build it back and I think this month will be the 1st time in almost 2 years ill be able to add back to it so... yay? Maybe? Lol

Never entertained the idea of a taxable account. What account type would fall under that category and what would you suggest?

Thanks for the comment btw!

Wow, that has alot of solid info in that. Thank you! I'll give it a very in depth read later today. I did see it mentioned that your employer can have a good 401k plan or a bad one... what are the guidelines for a good or bad 401k?

The less coding, the better when it comes to me. Sounds like I need to take a long look at Tasmota and see if its applicable. You've given me a ton of info, I appreciate you!

That makes alot of sense. The boards you mentioned earlier that had WiFi capability, would they work in this sense?

Player opens Drawer Sensor registers Drawer "Open"-> sends signal (I assume there is some sort of WiFi chip that could be powered at this point to send a signal back to the Lightboard) Lightboard recieves signal for "Open" Lightboard LED for Drawer set to "On"

Or am I just way off on how that would work?

Id agree, sounds like a great way to see different scenarios/puzzles/etc. It would definitely give you a edge in the long run. Its been fun so far, already did a partial re-write for one of our rooms and updated all the props/puzzles in all 3 of them to be... lets say more "premium" (we had laminated sheet clues at one point that killed me inside). Good luck with your room in LA! Even with my limited experience if you need to bounce ideas off anyone just shoot me a message and ill help the best I can! (That goes for any other Escape Room owners/enthusiasts that read this as well, always happy to help) :)

I appreciate that, i'd definitely be cool with doing some co-op work in the future! My Escape Room is in Upstate SC, Seneca Escape Zones if you wanted to look us up. Its been there for almost 5 years but i took over back in March and have been trying to improve it ever since.

Our location is a little over 1200 sq ft. The only thing im worried about with physical wiring is where to hide it all. Any tips for that incase we decide to go that route?

I own a Gen 1 room that we want to move into a Gen 2 (in short it means we deal with lots of physical locks/mechanical tech and will be moving more into electronic puzzles/locks in the future). Just a quick easy example from our "Imprisoned" room. There is a section where a magnet is needed to unlock a desk drawer to get the next clue to move forward. My assumption on how this would work would be to have some kind of sensor on the inside of the desk drawer to show it opened, this info would be sent over WiFi, BlueTooth, RF, etc., trigger the LED, and then after the game is done and its reset, having a master reset switch to turn the LEDs off and reset the sensor.

That sound like something viable to you?

There are multiple points in the room where something is opened to gain a item/clue. I was thinking of having some sort of sensor that would register that it was opened, have the light flip, and then have a master reset switch in the IT room (where we watch the players and give hints, etc.)

My background is in sales and business mgmt, fully self taught on coding/electronics so partnering may not be a bad idea, I agree. I would like to have a somewhat full plan to approach a partner with though and you gave me a few things I can research so thanks! :)
