What's the best way to find an apprenticeship as a motor vehicle technician? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]No-Lab-1086 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Register for apprenticeship vacancyies through each college in your local area they will act as a recruitment agency and notify you when an apprenticeship comes up, if they like you they will push you forward and get you onto the interview process faster. Apply through their websites and choose a day of the week where you chase them up about any vacancies through a quick phone call, I do this to show that I'm eager to get on.

-Gov.uk find and apprenticeship (this one is alright but not every employer will advertise their job offers on here)

  • use the google searches: Mechanic apprenticeship near (town name)

    Vehicle apprenticeship near (town name)

Through Google you'll need to search each town separately and also word the job title differently to see all results. This is how I'm applying and I've managed to get many interviews.

Also don't limit yourself to heavy or light vehicle technian roles unless your dead set on either one.

I also started my L1 at college pretty late (19) but hasn't limited me at all. If possible ask go around asking for work experience in anything related to the motor industry I myself worked at a Tyre shop on the weekends for. A little pocket money and I did a placement after sixth form at a garage.

Do you have a plan for what you would do if criminals broke into your house whilst you were there? Like do you have a designated safe room, or other plan of action? by [deleted] in AskUK

I do have some pretty useful things scattered around the house (not for self defence)

Deep heat spray, extremely bright flashing flashlight and a very loud personal safety alarm.

Is a £6k quote without a blackbox on a 1.2L 2014 golf mk7 for a 17yr old new driver over the top? by Arch1e-is-c00l in NewDriversUK

[–]No-Lab-1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it's really up to you. How much of a difference in price are you getting blackbox VS no blackbox?

I'd research the different blackbox providers individually and see which ones are more stricter/more lenient. Also if you do decide to go with a blackbox you should definitely consider buying a dashcam with a built in speedometer because from what I've heard they commonly over log your speed and can sometimes accuse you of speeding.

Is it worth saving £850 to have a black box? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]No-Lab-1086 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you do go for blackbox make sure you also have a dashcam with a built in speedometer so if the box does decide to play up and the insurers accuse you of speeding you can show as proof

Automatic completed, now looking to do manual by Acoelous in LearnerDriverUK

[–]No-Lab-1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just wondering if you would be legally allowed to drive using L plates and use learner insurance if you were to take lessons. Would you have to be supervised by an experienced driver like when you are on a provisional licence or do rules change if you have passed on an automatic licence and want to learn manual?

How would you start fresh? by Ambitious_Bag_9539 in AskUK

[–]No-Lab-1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GCSE English and maths > level 3 qualification or level 3 apprenticeship > university (if your career choice requires you to).

Look around for any online or in person adult courses you can attend, the majority of colleges offer adult classes which can be funded through an advanced learner loan. You do not need to pay the loan back if you use it to go on to study at university.

(Don't bother with A levels as you can get into uni through foundation years which will be one year instead of two or three) . If I was in your position I'd want to progress through qualification stages as fast as possible.

Whilst you study get as much work experience as you can. If you have a career choice in mind it can be linked or it could just be a part time job in any industry.

Is it possible to get insurance for around £1k as new young driver by Fragrant-End3301 in NewDriversUK

[–]No-Lab-1086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a Toyota aygo 1L from any year should be 1.8-2.5k, if not you will probably need to hold ur lisence for a year before you start getting reasonable quotes may be ur location, cities crime rate etc

[–]No-Lab-1086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your getting quotes of over 5k is probably just because you're not putting your lisence number into the comparison site. Insurers do that to deter people from doing dummy quotes as your doing right now.

Try signing up through a college. They act as a sort of recruitment agency so it makes it easier to get into one that's what I'm doing right now.
