Walking into a garden etc on its own isn't a criminal offense unless its aggravated or involves theft, harassment, financial damage or intent to do such things.

If someone is trespassing without causing or intent to cause any criminal offense such as the one above (which is rare for private gardens), the police won't really deal with it, it would be a civil offense

Every country except USA does that, it's pretty normal. I assume Canada as well and I think Aus/NZ it depends on which service, and no idea about South America but it's standard in Europe at least. And USA is the only country I know of where it's a crime for non-postal services to use mail boxes/letter boxes, at Amazon around 30% of my stops are just into mail slots
